Recent Gilbert Melendez Comments

not sure if serious or drunk.

dead serious, there's a reason virtually everyone in this thread so far has called it one-sided...

One knock-down doesn't nullify everything else Gil did in the 3rd round which was give Diego a beat-down...especially in a 5 minute round in MMA, this isn't Boxing...

it could be all bullshit just to get a big match with 2 hispanic (kinda) and hugely popular fighters on the mexico card in apil

Isnt saying that gil is probably the closest one to a new title shot enough?
Love gil, but w.e

Either way I agree tuf 1 babies get love whenever possible

one sided? lol what?

diego had his back in the first round, got a takedown, very very nearly almost finished him with body kicks. round 1 could have gone to diego easily, and of course round 3 almost knocked him out so he had that round nobody would argue that.

besides in a 5 round fight diego would easily easily finish gilbert.

and wtf does he mean only diego got praise for that fight? dana white said AFTERWARDS that fight that was terrible for tj grant, and that gilbert would likely skip past him for a title shot which is completely asinine to think about.

put the beer down gil.

You have to be more clever than that man. You don't even deserve to live under a bridge with that kind of lure.

Melendez vs. Sanchez was easily one of the most one sided fights I've ever seen. And I've seen thousands.

From Gilbert's perspective, the fight didn't make any sense the first time. Beating Sanchez once doesn't do anything for him. Beating him twice is a waste of time.

If Gil wasn't so close to a title shot I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch. But I would rather see Gil in a #1 contender fight.

I really don't want to see this fight. Gil busted Diego up good, he doesn't need another hole in his head.

All I'm saying is Diego had Gil in the worst positions in that fight. Whether he took a beating or not that's his style and he had a couple of chances to finish Gil. Had his back twice and dropped him with that uppercut he stunned Gil a couple of other times. If Gil fight Diego again the same way he could possibly get finished.

Tbh I don't like it when a fighter is hyped as someone who can get their face smashed in and keep coming. Diego already seems a little damaged. i hate to see what he'll be like after a few more of these wars.

And Diego really did the only thing he could do to win. Gilbert was the one that could have coasted to victory but stuck his neck out there anyway.

I like Gil and am a fan. But to be fair, I think it was a nice enough compliment by Dana when he said Gil is basically in the mix for a title shot, as he just bumped TJ Grant out of line, after the epic performance against Diego.

But I do see where Gil is coming from, however, sounds a little sensitive to me.

I guess the UFC want Diego to get brain-damage? lol

They're late to that party. It's normal behavior, most 'managers' favor the people they've brought in over any they've 'inherited'. Diego's one of Dana's finds. And since Dana's missing that speed bump between his brain and mouth, he makes it worse.

I have mixed feelings but mostly I see Sanchez as someone who peaked a long time ago. Performance from Melendez merely met expectations. Gil needed to impress to get much more recognition fom DFW than he did.

What the hell did Diego do to Dana White to have Dana want to put him through that again? Diego was SMASHED in a very one sided fight, and managed to catch Gil with 1 wild swing, which he immediately recovered from

29-28 so not that one sided. A five rounder would of been interesting IMO

How anyone scored that fight for Diego baffles me. Gil won it clearly. The plucky underdog got busted open, swung for the fences and protested afterwards. Story of sanchezs career

That fight really wasn't close.

You see when Diego walks forward and starts throwing hooks that he misses pretty much every single one and he's getting tagged over and over. He showed a great chin as usual, but he got a beating and his only moment of success was in the third round when he dropped Melendez. After Melendez was dropped, he just went back to giving Diego a shit kicking again.

Melendez beats Diego every time they fight, he's simply better than him.

Wow they are seriously considering a rematch here? Diego is off the reservation and so is Joe Silva if he puts this together. It's a complete waste of Gil's time.

They're putting together Penn vs Edgar III at a weightclass Penn has never been to, AND having them coach TUF 18. The UFC apparently loves doing pointless rematches.

why would melendez waste his time?

hes got bigger fish to fry at 155

Sucks to see this. Gil preformed just as admirably as Diego, just smarter. Diego went beast mode! But Gil is the one who won the fight and should be praised.
