I saw Ready Player One again and I didn't enjoy it as much the second time around which is weird for me. Usually I enjoy a movie more the second time around.

I highly recommend the book and even better the Audio Book. Wil Wheaton does a fantastic job, bringing Cline's world to life. If you like the movie, you will love the book.

Yeah, the book and audiobook were excellent. The movie was awful. Easily one of Spielberg's worst.

I enjoyed the movie, knowing full well there was no chance you can replicate most the stuff. I was actually impressed with the changes he made, and still made a fun movie that told most of the story. That said the book, just paints such a vibrant world, its hard to encompass that in a film.

Why do you say that?

Just seems like some publicity stunt

I feel like Spielberg should just direct the sequel and let the writer write

Is Spielberg going to try to fit stuff into the book that would look good on the screen? I dunno but I think that its a possibility

I've always assumed that he has a lot of influence over the story, even if he doesn't get a writer's credit.

Did you know he wrote Poltergeist and Close Encounters? I'm actually not sure why he hasn't written more throughout his career.

The movie story is much better than the novel story. Cline should step away before he tarnishes his gold.

Seems like the reason he doesn't write more is because he just enjoys directing

I know he has written good stuff but he also wrote AI and that was his most recent one.

It really is a case of what have you done for me lately + Why do you all of a sudden wanna piggyback off this story

I also maybe don't trust the author enough. He seems like the kinda guy that isn't really loyal to what he writes since what he writes about isn't really his to begin with

I kinda feel like Ernest Cline might just be in it for the money

I will let my trusted box office expert weigh in on this.

@JBSchroeds Do you consider Ready Player One a financial success?

JBSchroeds is our box office expert? What are his credentials?

First I'm hearing of this.
I'm shocked because you hang out in Mayberry 24/7 and this is the first time you've heard that JB is a box office analytical expert (second to me of course, kidding. I'm probably 3rd in line). JB has been doing this type of stuff in the Mayberry for as long as I can remember.

Yeah, this is new to me.

Is he actually an industry guy or just fascinated by the numbers?

Schroeds is the GD man when it comes to BO analyses. Even his funk is algebraic.
