Razor vs Electric Shaver

As a man who shaves his head, between my upper lip and nose, my neck, and leave a little facial hair grow on my chin and jawline.... I appreciate a close shave.

To get the best shave I've ever had, I use...

Only razors I've used that I can use three or four times before throwing them out. Gillettes last once, if that.

Screw shaving cream, use Dollar Tree Cocoa Butter.

And after shaving, coconut oil lotion.

Just alittle advice from a fellow Sherdogger with nearly 20 years of head-shaving.

I use a beard trimmer. Closest setting, plastic off, no stubble, if I want a bit of stubble, plastic back on and change the setting.

I grew up with an electric shaver then went to razors but Ive been using the beard trimmer now for about 5 years and it's my preference.

Razor marketing makes me laugh. 3 blade, WOW. 5 blades, AMAZING. 5 blade with Gilette build in LotionTech strip. Give me a break. Reminds me of trainers/sneakers. Lousy "technology" with stupid names to make it sound like it does something.

there was a point I stopped using the multi blade end of my Fusion & just used the single blade side for that quicker more effective stroke before abandoning wet shaving all together.

electric shaver/beard trimmer is so much more convenient & less of a hassle.

that fucking feeling on hot Summer day commuting to work here in NY, sweating from your face after you've just shaved is the motherfucking worst.

using a clipper eliminated my ever having to feel that way again.

Right now an adjustable clone from Amazon and Gillette Blues, Personna Reds, Polsilvers, and Gillette Blacks.

If I want a clean shave this is my go to system.

Use the beard trimmer to get as close as I can
Hot shower to open up the pores
Shaving cream + Gillette Mach 3

No cuts, nice smooth shave without peeling your face off.

I rock a beard though so these days I just get rid of the "Sherdog Neckbeard"

Between the two, which one do you prefer? So far, I like using the 3 bladed razor from Gillette since it gives me a closer shaved. However, what have been your experiences been like between the two?

As @the ambush just mentioned, a straight razor is the best way to shave, period. Shitty disposable razors like the Mach 3 are for women and teenagers. Get a real razor and learn to use it. If you want closeness, a single blade from a straight razor is closer than you'll ever get with a multiple blade razor. If you have a beard like me and you want perfect lines, then you'll have perfect lines. It's pretty easy to learn and you'll notice a serious difference in the quality of your shave.

I have a wahl detailer (like the ones barbers use) that I use to shape my beard (but not too defined), then I use a straight razor to clean up the upper cheek and neck lines.

Easy peasy.

Yeah that works pretty well. I try to get into the barber once every week for a beard line up and every three weeks for a full cut and line up. I got this Colombian chick as a barber who does an amazing job with my hair and beard so I let her do it. I just use my straight edge to clean the cheeks and neck line because my shit grows super fast otherwise.

Nice. I've got a Merkur classic and ordered a variety pack of a couple hundred blades a few years ago and haven't needed to purchase new ones since.
