Crime Ralph Yarl shooting.

In all seriousness, though, that's a bit like asking if people still care about the Iraq war, and complaining that the media have moved on to Ukraine.

That is literally the media's job.

That's not my point, my point is the majority general public really won't care in any meaningful way about this case. You said Indifference is a minority trait in these matters, I'm saying it's very much a majority take.

And before that, I said the legal response was critical, and you responded 'K'.

Maybe you're right about the sheer indifference this story will generate, but that obviously doesn't make it right.

We should wait for the facts. There was a camera apparently and I haven't seen the man has been arrested * This happened 3 days ago

It was wrong. The legal response one way or the other won't have me losing much sleep over

Certainly a fucked up situation, but curious as to why this specific case is so newsworthy? Are black folks not being killed by other black folks every day? I though BLM, don't theirs?

He's been charged because of public pressure. the old bastard was cleaning his mess when the journalist tried to talk to him. It's possibly a crime scene and the police did nothing.
The shooting happened on Thursday night, the police already examined the scene and allowed him to clean it.

It's hard not to get mad. Poor kid gets shot because another fucking pussy is too nervous.

Fighting for his life? I'm not trying to justify this kid getting shot in any way. Why does Halle need to over state the severity of the injuries though? Fortunately, Ralph was discharged soon after that pic was taken.

The question isn't whether it was the wrong thing to do.

The question is, do batshit crazy US gun laws mean he's hunky dory from a legal perspective?

The fact it's a question (and it is) is a disgrace to America.

Even in Texas I think firing through door at an unidentified target that hasn't presented any kind of threat should he enough to at least get him charged.

Can his lawyer make a case that he felt threatened is another story. If it makes you feel any better the last big court cases I can think of the juries were not bamboozled by lawyer tricks and got the correct verdicts ( Floyd, Rittenhouse, aubery)

We spent a whole class talking about is it ever alright to fire through your door last year and we concluded the answer to be almost never ever. Like can you see a weapon and they are trying to kick the door in right this second ? What kinda weapon? We concluded in almost all scenarios the answer is almost always no and it sure as shit shouldn't be the first move of the encounter. We concluded you better really feel threatened and be right and even then you still might end up on trial.

You really need to identify your target before you pull that trigger and be sure of the situation. It's going to matter for the rest of your life and not just to you but to a great many people.

Great insight, thanks, man.

Internationally, I can only draw on the Pistorius case, where he shot through his bathroom door at an 'assailant', killing his girlfriend.

All his lawyers defences failed, and have continued to fail, until this point.

Don't get me wrong, it's only been 10 years, but let's hope his prison term continues to rise.
