Economy "Radical" Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

A measure like this would put the American capitalist machine into full gear.

The reward would be the US would be global leaders in renewable technology probably - you know, the shit we are currently buying from China, that much of the world will soon be on. Arguably more reward than the pissing contest of putting a man on the moon - which of course resulted in tons of technical development that benefited us all, but an equal incentive to develop renewable energy would do the same plus the direct application.
Germany put a lot of effort and money into their renewable energy programs, but they are still buying energy (generated by nuclear power plants) from France. Changing to electric vehicles creates a huge power deficit that can hardly be dealt with using renewable energies generated from today’s technology. Totally not saying this isn’t a goal one should strive for, but it’s fantasy for now.

I think hybrid cars are the way to go in the next decade to reduce emissions. In parallel the state should raise awareness for renewable energies and push the respective programs. (Or say fuck it and build more nuclear power plants to supply electric cars, j/k.)

Tax a bunch of white people so that illegals can drive around in state-of-the-art green cars.

"Sign me up!" said the cuck.

Fairly entertaining watching these women trigger you guys day in and day out. Always a new thread about something silly like a curse word or dancing, each filled with this kind of rustle.
No one is triggered. Her presence in Washington will unlikely have any effect on my life. She’s just being paraded because she’s a minority woman and anything that appears “progressive” gets constant news coverage.

like 85% of the coverage i see about her is just laughing at dumb conservative fuckwits come up with stupid reasons to have her name in their mouth like the dancing video

Completely agree but also would create a new economy that world create new jobs an reduce our dependency on foreign oil. Top it off we would not have to be protecting the South China seas an Arab water ways.

Already BP has been switching over with great success on Islands where people have embraced electric power. BP just bought the largest car charger company.

They begun to install advanced 800 volt chargers at their stations. They are converting some of their stations to look like Starbucks an other high end coffee shops. People plug their car in walk into the coffee shop an drop another 10 while waiting 10 to 20 mins to charge.

Peruse Yahoo. Perhaps it’s my own fault for doing so but there’s at least one article about her on the front page at all times, alongside Ariana Grande/Pete Davidson rubbish.

The 12 year timeline is from the IPCC. The US wouldn't be able to completely ditch fossil fuel use in 12 years, but aiming high will achieve more.

Battery prices are dropping significantly.

EV-Battery-Cost-Drops.png

They've already dropped from 49% of an EV's cost to 37% in the last two years.

Of course used electric cars are already entering the low end of the market.
Used 2012 era electric cars like the Leaf, i-miev, fourtwo etc are available in the $4-5K range in the US at the moment.
Admittedly they tend to limit you to around 70 miles range, but as battery technology improves and becomes cheaper, upgrading an old EV becomes a viable option. Nissan are already doing it.
I had a leaf, nice car, but not viable for many scenarios. Battery anxiety was a PITA. I'm a big believer in electric, don't think it's anywhere close to maturity. I currently use the Prius plugin as a compromise. A good high percent of my driving is pure electric, even with the puny batteries. No battery anxiety.

Tesla is the only viable option for most folks, expensive.

The new Hyundai Kona gets around 260 miles plus on a charge for around 30,000 dollars I have seen some base prices put it at 29,750 others around 35,000. They stated in Europe currently the only place outside of Korea where you can buy it likely due to recent trade issues adding to the price. It has some level of autonomy, nice 6 speaker digital infotainment system, GPS and this is base trim. The 35,000 dollar Model 3 according to Elon will reach market during the Summer of this year. There is a rumored KIA model that should also fit nicely into the mix being based from the Hyundai Kona platform.

Let her dance and fantasize all she wants.

Her next thing will be temper tantrums and crying when the real world slaps her down.

At the moment the IEA is only projecting 125 million electric vehicles globally by 2030 (with on road totals closing on 2 billion). Current number is around 4 million (reached last September).
That's without the EV30@30 policy changes, which would aim to increase EV market share to 30% by 2030 (which is considered ambitious).

There are countries slated to start restricting new sales of fossil fuel vehicles as early as 2020 of course.

Yah, but I stuck with US only as that's the only part of the world ahead can have an impact on.

Also, I wish more websites would give links to where they get their information from, because god damn is it a drag finding information like this. I was about ready to strangle a hobo by the time I found a website that listed year by year vehicle (meaning cars, trucks, and SUVs in one chart) sales instead of month to month.

Yahoo front page has a lot of trash. Many years ago they were a decent website but after their financial woes they embraced tabloid crap, celeb gossip and clickbait headlines and websites. They still feature local and international news along with lots of crap.

People might not agree with it but it's hardly insane. This is why I said it's starting to appear that no matter what she says it's just going to be dismissed as unworkable.

If she starts presenting actual detailed plans maybe folks would pay attention and take her more serious.

I think she's awesome.
Sure, some of her plans will prove to be undoable on the timetables that she's projected & some of them not at all but at least she's got some bold new ideas.

But does she actually have any real plans to make her ideas happen?

People would still be able to buy cars - they'd just be electric.

And full of batteries that once no longer usable would need to be safely disposed of or something. Can you imagine how may batteries that might be in 20-40 years?

Really? This thread was posted about none of that crap . . . it was posted to start a legit discussion about some of her largest proposals.

I never brought up her dancing video at all . . . @zebby23 did.

Why? I wanted to see what folks thought about no more fossil fuels in 12 years . . . and how it might impact them.
She can dance her way to work! Maybe that's the answer to global warming...

Good for her. Real change will only happen when people make it happen. I wish she was president. Making the richest 1% pay more in taxes would make a lot of things affordable. Universal health care/education, infrastructure improvements, etc.
The 1% already pay more than their fare share.

  • The share of income earned by the top 1 percent of taxpayers rose to 20.6 percent in 2014. Their share of federal individual income taxes also rose, to 39.5 percent.
  • The top 1 percent paid a greater share of individual income taxes (39.5 percent) than the bottom 90 percent combined (29.1 percent).
