Question for Blue Belts and up...

12 months training 3-5x a week.

Since i got my bluebelt its been nothing but injuries though.

7 months. no previous training. another 2 years to purple

About a year. I had some grappling experience prior to BJJ, and medaled in every competition I entered at white belt.

-double post-

No offense, but it took you 7 months to land your first submission? Wow...

I did 3 weeks of no-gi before I started gi. It's not like I'm submitting people left and right, but I've caught my fair share of people in omoplatas, triangles, and a few armbars.

Those damn gi's are sneaky though. You think youre fine and then someone sneaks in a collar choke on you and it's lights out.

it varies based on your own input. for the average person it takes 1-2 years if you go 2-3x a week. then it depends on your natural ability to pick it up.

if you go 3-5x a week and drill on your offdays, then yea you could get it in less than a year. but most guys do this recreationally and go after work or w/e, so they don't have the time to put in double days and all that fun stuff.

2 years and1 month of traing mainly 2 but some times days a week

1.5 years of BJJ, but I did some other BS grappling stuff for a couple years before that.

I agree. 1 year + gold medal = blue belt.

You guys are kinda making me feel bad. Won my first tourny at 4 months, and 4 months later I'm still only a 2 stripe white, but tapping at least one blue belt a night on avg. My instructor tends to hold me and a few others to a somewhat higher standard than most at the gym. It doesn't get me down though...so long as I keep improving and winning.

I train 4-5 nights/wk btw.

I've been doing gi 3 nights a week and no gi 3 days a week on the offdays for gi. I also train muay Thai for 2 hours 5-6 days a week so I'm hoping that by March or April I might be promoted.

I'm not holding my breath though or really in any rush. I'll get it when I get it, you know? I'm still young.

Damn, you guys who managed to get a purple in 2.5 years are pretty impressive.

None taken. But, for all fairness, I guess I should mention that I was exclusively training with blue & purple belts. My first sub was on a blue belt, I never really worked on subs against the white belts, I worked on positional dominance with white belts and sub attempts on higher.
But to each his own (as far as training goes).

1 Year to get to blue, three tournaments. Lost the first, 2-1 in the second, third place in the third. My friend and training partner won 1st.

Understandable. If I'm going with a 3-4 stripe white belt or above I definitely work on not being submitted and getting dominant position. Anything lower I try to work good technique on submissions.

About 1 year, 6 months of informal no-gi, 6 months of formal training under a BJJ brown.

1 year for blue 1998

5 years for purple 2003

9 years for Brown 2007
