I think I'll be going to one in a village just round the corner from my girlfriend's former home.
They've got 3 Lumpinee fighters training there. They told me I was welcome, but I was just wondering about the language barrier. Was just checkin' if there are any sizeable camps likely to have english speakers. Ah well, I'll probably have better training there anyway. I'm only 17, would I be taken seriously by the trainer?

Also, as for money, I keep hearing people say 3000 baht, which sounds like a lot to me (I'm not made of money myself).

I don't go to pubs in Bangkok much, because I think they're kinda lame and I'm not british or irish, but when I do go with friends I very rarely see any Thai guys. I don't think anyone would mind, but I always thought Thais didnt like western style pubs, bars and clubs and preferred the sit around table and drink whisky all night places?

I say go for it. Put on your best Irish kilt, ring the bell by the door as you go in, and you will immediately make all kinds of new friends. :icon_lol:

This is probably a really broad question, but excluding accomodation, flights, mo ped hire and training costs what is the total cost of living in thailand for a month in baht? I know it will vary for different people. I'm having a hard time getting an idea of how much money I need to set aside. I'm planning on going for 3 months to phucket.
 
You can live like a king for months with that kind of money.

So how many months would I be able to live like a peasent for with that kind of money? To me getting better and maybe seeing some sights and going out on weekends is all that matters. I need food, a mo ped, a good place to train and a bed. Would 6 months be possible? I've never left the country by myself before so I'm a bit paranoid I'm going to run out of money and get stuck in Thailand. Probably unfounded fears, but still..

How about I give you realistic but general figures for things you'll need and you can add them up yourself, eh?

Training -- 400-500 baht a day, less if you pay for larger blocks of time (ie by the week or month).
Accomodation -- If you pay more than 1,000 baht a day, you're paying too much.
Food -- 35-80 baht per meal.
Drinking water -- 10-14 baht for a large bottle
Moped -- 100-200 baht a day

Not sure what else you'd need.

I guarantee you that $10,000 would be plenty for six months of living conservatively.

Edit: At TMT they offer a meal plan costing 6k baht a month and you get lunch and dinner every day. Is this a rip off? Apparantly you can get food just outside the camp from little stalls anyway. They claim it helps save money for guests.

It is an enormous ripoff, as is TMT in general, though you could make the argument that the latter is just my personal opinion (based on personal experience). The former, however, is not.

My favorite restaurant in Rawai offers dishes for under 50 baht. Do the math.

6 months? 10,000$ is rougly 340,000 Baht. The average English teacher salary is 25-30K in Thailand.

Actually, if you live frugally, but decent, you could stay a year.

Please elaborate. It can't be price alone as Sinbi is more expensive than Tiger.
