off the subject of farting, do you guys think i should be conditioning my shins before i train in chiang mai. ive done a little boxing but i have girly little soft shins, whats the best way besides kicking the bottom of the bag?

Do some preparation and you'll be okay. I've been to Thailand to train five times now and I've only gotten sick once. Take probiotics.

OH yeah, I have learned the tricks of the trade since then. I bring some doxycycline that was issued to me in Afghanistan. That stuff and prevent and cure almost anything.

I hate to say this but the food in Thailand is one of the main causes of westerners getting sick and food poisoned over there.

Found this out the hard way during the first few times I was deployed to Thailand in 2002 and 2003.

Never knock anyone that wants to BYOF (bring their own food)

I've been there 4x in Phuket but never been had food poison.

Some people just have weak stomachs. In my experience, people who have trouble in Thailand seem to be people who eat very bland diets back at home, and especially people who eat mostly processed food, and very little 'real' food.

Personally, spending 2 months in South East Asia, eating from everywhere, I've never got sick. Worst I've got was a mild case of the shits one time, but I'm pretty sure that was from the heat of whatever that meal I had before was (but godamn that meal was tasty).

It's funny considering some of the synthetic "nourishment" people put into their bodies in most civilized countries and it's the fresh food in Thailand making them sick.

I eat filipino food 80% of the time here at home. Granted, there are alot less spices and herbs than Thai food, but i had no problems on my non-training trip to phuket.

150$ a night is just plain dumb for any country in SE Asia (maybe except for Japan)

There are many hotels that range from 700 baht - 1000 baht that are out of the "tourist areas".

what do you mean except Japan??

Thai food is the best thing ever. I could eat that every day and be happy.

ive seen farang get sick eating the same food as thais.
body needs time to adjust to the bacteria.
i find when im away from thailand for a while,i get sick when i return as my body needs to re-adjust.
best thing to do is eat everything and get it over with.

Guys,

I might be going to Thailand very soon (to actually train this time), but i only have a month to spare from work. Money isn't too much of an issue. I'll probably be bringing 5-10k for the month.

Since i'm only gonna be there for one month, should i enjoy myself and pay to train at the fairtex resort? If so, which one?

I know it's very much a farang camp, but despite that, how is the quality of the training? I'd like to train there, but i don't think i'll be staying there, i've been told there are some nice hotels surrounding both fairtex establishments.

haha, maybe i sound like a typical foreigner wanting to enjoy myself at fairtex, but i only got a month, and after that i may not be able to go back to Thailand for a few years, so i want to get the best type of experience.

Plus i might be bringing my girlfriend, and i hear there is other stuff for her to do at Fairtex.

Also that is a metric assload of money to bring here, even for a month.

i spent 6k in one month once, dont remember on what.

he who runs with wolves howles like a wolf, thats my sig.

God i hope i don't get hassled for sexual services, especially since i'm bringing the girlfriend.....

Maybe i should leave her behind and spread my seed a bit, lol? Just a thought.

*turns head around to check if she sees me typing this*

Girls won't approach you if you are already with a girl, especially a farang one.

Sadly -- at least for me at the moment -- this is true. I'm down here with a farang right now (just a friend -- a student of mine) and the difference between this trip and previous trips is night and day. Of course that doesn't mean I can't check out everything that walks by.
