Could someone break down the different areas of Thailand, like Chang Mai, Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket? I've been plan on training at Scorpion in Pattaya for a month but I'm not a party guy at all. I want to experience Thailand and there natural beauty when i'm resting on Sunday but it sounds like Pattaya is a huge party town. I want to be at a great camp where I get a lot of great 1 on 1 instruction, train twice a day and be in a safe, clean area where I can be by a beautiful beach. Thanks, thinking Phuket/Patong is where I should go and train????????????
I have never been to Chiang Mai, but my understanding is that it's a bit more rural. I'll let someone who's actually been there comment on it, however.
The other areas (ones that I've been to) in short:
Bangkok - Large, busy, urban area. Certainly not my style, but there is plenty there worth seeing. And if you're going to Thailand and train seriously rather than "party," it would be embarassing for you to skip over Lumphini and/or Rajadamnern. As for "nightlife", with Cowboy and Nana and the soapies, all of your bases are covered. The girls are much classier than Pattaya.
Pattaya - About two hours east of Bangkok (by car), it's a very crowded and dirty tourist trap full of girly bars. I hated it. From what I've seen of the beach there, it's pretty small. The bars are pretty skanky, so if that's what you're into, this place is probably heaven (as it is to fat, old tourists).
Phuket - Some of the most beautiful beaches on the planet. You're most likely talking about the Chalong/Rawai/Nai Harn area, which is a very laid back area. Plenty of beaches. There's still nightlife in Patong and Phuket City, but nothing like Bangkok or Pattaya.
Again, that's the short version. If anyone wants to elaborate, knock yourself out, but that's really all you need to know.
As for tattoos, I'm pretty well covered and I personally wouldn't bother. I haven't seen any tattoos done in Thailand that impressed me.
