These sorts of people approach the problem from a flawed perspective.

Instead of seeing themselves as men residing above others, required to protect other lesser men from their own ignorance, with crudely imposed punishments, they should instead be focused on having everyone grow up to become more critical, more knowledgeable and more capable of functioning in a free speech society, such as ours in the West.

The standard of punishing a person for having the "wrong opinion" does not actually teach them anything, other than that the person with the "correct" opinion has the power to punish and enforce his own point of view, over the others.
