Once again people keep misusing the term 'extremist' in regards to Islam. Most Muslims support laws against blasphemy, which includes drawing, depicting or mocking the prophet in any way. Here in the UK 27% of Muslims say they 'sympathize' with (i.e support) the terrorists behind the Charlie Hebdo attacks.

It is not an extremist minority who think like this.

I wish these contests were announced day after day in countries all over the world. That anyone can, even for a second, or from some "nuanced" angle, defend the inescapable Islamic violence over this stuff is beyond me. That is because you are not very bright and don't understand Islamic culture. You may not consider it a loss not to be able to draw pictures of Muhammad but they consider it a win to force you not to. You think that extremism and issues like this are unrelated because you have no understanding of the bully mindset inherent in Islam. When the west capitulates on issues like this instead of defending their own values in emboldens Islamist's the world over and shows how shallow and weak the west is.

There isn't a problem with Islamic extremism, there is a problem with Islam. You can not advocate for free speech and be a Muslim, you can not advocate for religious tolerance and be a Muslim, you can not advocate for democratic values, or against sexism and be a Muslim. If those values are important to you, then you will never be at peace with Islam. You just don't realize it yet.
