Television Problems with The Wire

Never did understand what Joe got out of their 'partnership' (other than $ I guess).
Well he ripped of Marlo himself making a boatload of money from him via Omar letting everyone buy back their own product. Thats why killing Prop was kinda the logical conculsion when Marlo found out.

Btw. best death in The Wire definitely Cheese <lmao>

The actor picked for Marlo was too young. That role should have went to a veteran actor who was older. The random death is accurate. Can't tell you how many times it ain't no conspiracy or planned out BS. Street life is straight up what the hell you looking at gun play at 3 in the morning . Guys blast dudes in front of a corner store 2 minutes after buying something in the same store and exchanging stare downs with each other. That random shooting of people like it's a joke is what the series did best along with showing the Damm ignorance of the streets. Can't tell you how many times these guys will live their whole life and die at a young age without ever leaving their neighborhood.

I barely remember the show but from what I can recall, after season 2 it was all downhill for me. Never could understand what people saw in season 3 that made it good

I disagree with your first sentence. I think that was to illustrate the younger generation coming up was ruthless and would kill for very little. They'd also off someone within there own crew for very little.

I'm really glad they didn't end up making the quasi-sequel series following fucking Carcetti and those other shithead politicians around

Ultimately I would say really a lot of the plot around Stringer/Avon/Marlo comes down to the efforts to make drug dealing "legit" failing, in the end it always comes back to a nasty violent street level thing which can't be risen above, that and the randomness of fate.

Really that tended to be the nature of the show, it was more interested in either making the bigger political points or having the bigger drama than it was in being a 100% accurate depiction.

I do think you have a bit of a disconnect between the Avon/Stringer kind of godfather like gangsters and Marlo though who feels like someone who should be running dealing on a few streets not controlling a city.

Season 5 was the only one that really pushed things a bit too far into Hollywood territory, with the whole "serial killer" thing. Not a bad plotline, just bad for a show like The Wire.
S5 was Simon focused on glorifying his profession. He butchered McNultys character to get of this stupid serial killer thing and by that really damaged the whole show.

plotlines:
1) political angle with Carcetti; still very well done in showing the corruption of just doing the job
2) serial killer; as cheap and dumb as it can get in everything
3) newspaper angle; pretentious, self inflated trash with drama no one cares
4) crime angle with Prop/ Marlo , Freamon, Sydney etc. still well done
5) bubbles; love everything about that guy. Wonderful redemption story
6) if I remember correct sadly some scenes with the most horrible "success story" of the Wire . whiny bully and b*tchboy Namond.

All in all a solid 7/10 but far away from the previous highlights and not much value rewatching. 1 and 2 are the goat seasons. 3 is exceptional. 4 very good but with some quite weak parts and 5 I will never watch again.

should have been called the wires

pretty sure there were multiple wires hell a regular house has at least 4 or 5 wires

flagrant false advertising if you ask me

Anti "The Wire" threads will not be tolerated

That's like saying "The Godfather insists on itself"

I don't care what they say about the real guy. The shit that were doing with Omar on the show was fucking dumb. The drug dealers literally just giving up the drugs they are so scared of one guy with a gun? I never understood why they took a show that was supposed to be serious and have someone like Omar in it with stupid plot armor.

I don’t think them giving up the drugs was that unrealistic. Yeah, it’s one guy with a gun but that’s enough. These drug dealers are mostly wannabe tough guys to begin with, they’re not going to risk their life against someone who has built up a reputation like Omar. It’s not worth potentially getting shot over.

The show gave me PTSD. Too dark all the time. I know thats the type of show it is. But the Sopranos had levity. There were way more issues with the show that made no sense. But since it was so well acted people ignored it. The FBI should have been involved in tons of these cases. Kimas girl just out of the blue becoming bad? The concept of Hamsterdam was so stupid. No one questions the drugs were being sold right in front of police?
