Cycling Pro Discussion 4: Transfers Everywhere, Vuelta & Beyond

Another great race - damn! We have bene spoiled this spring.

Winners - MvdP (duh), Pogacar (duh), Mads (3rd was best case after he punctured when he did)

Losers - Ganna (not sure what happened after the initial mechanical but he was never a factor in the race), Wout (I find myself really pulling for the guy but while 4th is a good result, he has not looked like a member of the super mutant club all spring)

Other - Matthew Brennan (at 19, he looks like the potential future winner. What a talent! Very curious how he develops over the next 2 years)

Last stage of Basque Tour... With 50km to go, UAE is using textbook strategy. They are the strongest team and they have a bunch of riders on the front controlling tempo. I am... perhaps a little surprised.

Not to worry, Almeida decides to attack in wet conditions with 30km to go despite have 3 strong riders with him, Why?

It all worked out but seemed like a foolish gamble. He could have just waited and attacked on the last climb. Why take the risk of crashing on a wet road with no teammates around?

Almeida deserved a win this spring but he always finds a way to make me scratch my head,

Please Remco slay the super mutants. Bring some light to this darkness.

I dont buy that at all. He looked pretty good towards the end and his results show it.

Poor Diego Pescador did not survive, none of them did

^^

I should also put "the fans" as Winners.

We have been treated to some great races.

Hats off to Pogacar for making the spring so exciting
It’s too bad wout has been so rough this year. Seeing him go at it with pogi and mvdp would have been something.

Think Pog is going to have easiest Ardennes campaign ever, hoping he pulls out of Amstel Gold and Fleche to be honest.

Almeida is pretty good descender when he can be at the front. I think it was just a show of force after very disappointing Algarve and Paris Nice.

He can take the entire week off to recover from P-R and still win all 3 races. Fleche Wallonne is the riskiest because if you don't have good legs for the last time up the Mur, it won't happen.

Pogacar has 6 races left this season. Which if any do you think he doesn't win?

I think we are talking about different sides of the same coin. Almeida seemed to take on unnecessary risk for no "good" reason. He won, it all worked out, I am happy for him... but it seemed like a dumb move to me. It did make the race more exciting tho!

Barring the usual caveats about crashes and illness, it is almost inconceivable that Pogacar won't win Amstel, LBL, and Lombardia.

World Championships always feel like more of a crapshoot due to small teams but if the course is as hard as it looks, it is hard to see anybody beating him.

I dunno. I feel like I should pick something that he won't win. hahahaha

that being said, there is a reason that they actually hold the events. weird things happen in bike races.

I am pumped for Amstel this weekend. always one of my faves to watch.

UAE farming .1 Giro d'Abruzzo for some reason.

He'll simply launch it on second ascent of Huy.

He'll win 'em all, that is why I'd love if he skipped some.
