Prime Rumble vs Jiri: Who wins?

In his LHW prime rumble takes it. But I wouldn't count Jiri out, he's a good striker with heart and submissions.

Rumble has a questable heart and both are fearce in the stand up early.
Both are (or were in prime Rumble's case) fierce, but Rumble was faster and much better technically. He didn't eat nearly as many big shots, either.

What about prime Chuck vs Jiri/Rumble.
Early in the fight, Rumble is an even worse match-up for Chuck than Rampage. If Chuck can surivive the first 2 rounds, the edge goes to him. Chuck/Jiri is quite intersting...I'd lean towards a prime Chuck (not 2006 or later version), but it's a bit hard to call. I think Chuck's accuracy and ability to stay cool in wild exchanges would pay off.
Rumble would get hit once and roll over to tap out
Something that never happened to Rumble. All of his tapout losses were from being taken down and losing heart later in the fight. No one ever stunned him early in the fight then immediately finished him. And no, the Belfort fight (with those ridiculous standups) doesn't count. Rumble also came in way heavy in that fight and was definitely not his best self.

Jiri fought with very similiar fighter to Rumble back in 2013 - Martin Šolc (Notorious orbital breaker with insane punch power and Jiri was eating these bombs like a champ...)

BTW - Yes i know that GCF is not UFC and Šolc is not Rumble, but Šolc was definitely UFC material if he didnt end up in jail.

You said it yourself. That guy is no Rumble

Glover took Jiri down 5 times...

In the UFC, Glover was outwrestled by:
  1. Kyrlov
  2. Corey Anderson
  3. Cummins
  4. Phil Davis
  5. Jon Jones

In the UFC, Rumble was outwrestled by:
  1. DC
  2. Koscheck
Don't forget, Rumble was beating Koscheck until that questionable eye poke. He seemed to feel guilty after that and folded quickly.

Rumble splatters Jiri's brains over the rafters. Seriously, if he ate as many shots from Rumble as he did from a 50 year old Glover, he's leaving in a hearse.

lol true but Rumble was nowhere near as gritty and durable as Glover. I think Jiri probably gets himself knocked out a lot in this matchup but if he rocks Rumble he’s gonna finish him.

What we’ll never know for sure is how Chuck’s chin would have held up against these big hitters before it cracked. He beat the shit out of a lot of guys who weren’t known for their punching power.

The safe prediction is that Chuck gets beat up and knocked out I think, but there’s a chance that he does better than we think.

Jones
DC
Rumble
Gus
Davis
Glover
Bader

That was a deep division. Jiri would lose to most.
I agree, though I think he may beat Bader. Ryan doesn't do well mentally against dangerous strikers. Macihda, Glover, Rumble, Nemkov...all different styles of striking, and all found Bader's chin. Jiri is different altogether, but if he can find Bader's chin just once with a punch or wild spinning elbow, it's lights out. With that said, Bader would have a chance of winning a boring, safe LnP decision.

Beating Johnson is no easy task. You gotta get close to him and get a hold of him without getting KOed, take him down and wear him out. If we exclude his early weight adventures, the only man who successfully managed to pull that off is Cormier. Other high-profile wrestlers like Davis failed miserably.

A template for a hypothetical Johnson - Jiri fight is Johnson vs Gustafson.

Rumble had a tendency to fade if he couldnt get his way, but with Jiris lack of defence and Rumbles power I think Jiri getting KTFO pretty early is the most likely outcome.

This is where my head is going too, but I think it’s fair to wonder if Jiri would fight differently against a guy he didn’t think he had the power advantage against.

Has Jiri ever fought with a safe, systematic gameplan? That's the likely answer to your question.

Jiri has a much higher finish rate than Rumble, including a higher KO rate.

Prime Rumble was THE fight to make with Jon Jones...Jiri would had been just another stepping stone, no disrispect but he ran through most of the LHW division only losing to DC, and DC only lost to Jones.

Low hands + exposed chin = slumber party

Rumble would have crunched Jiri imo
Yeah, King Mo KO'd Jiri. If Jiri had the chin of a young Roy Nelson or Mark Hunt, I might think differently. He has a good chin and a ton of heart, but never faced anyone with Rumble's combination of power, speed and accuracy. Mo hit pretty hard but he was a wild striker himself, not a sniper like prime Rumble.

The Gus fight is how it could look, but Jiri is even bigger than Gus and probably has a better chin. Gus was landing on Rumble and if the fight had gone longer it might have gotten interesting. Rumble is like McGregor somewhat, the key is getting through the window of time when he’s at his most explosive. Look at the Cormier fights — Rumble looks moments away from shutting DC off both times but isn’t the same once DC weathers the first storm. It doesn’t have to be a takedown either, good clinchwork is sufficient.

Based on what we saw this weekend, I’d say the first round or two favors Rumble and the odds shift towards Jiri each round that he survives.

And I love me some Rumble for what it’s worth.

That's because he spent most of his career in smaller orgs, not fighting the likes of Cormier (X2), Davis, Bader, Belfort, Arlovski, etc. Stats are meaningless without considering the level of competition.
