Prime Anderson Silva would beat Daniel Cormier

yeah you would say that ;)

no matter what happens its never anything his opponent did.

If you couldn't see how tired and slow Silva was and factor in the 2 days notice with no camp then again...I question your ability to analyze mma.

You're absolutely correct TS.

Anderson's reflexes and speed have soemwhat diminished over time and yes even though he would've been pinned to the mat a few times I'm pretty sure Ando Prime would've TKO'd Cormier due to exhaustion.

Let's be real here. Daniel took it pretty easy on Anderson.
Cormier threw a grand total of 64 significant strikes against Anderson in the entire fight. Against Gus he threw that many per round.

Im sure he was slower and tired, but i also recognize he wasnt the only one in the octagon beside the referee and i chose to focus on that as well

This is all wild speculation, all I can say is that old Anderson held up a lot better than I thought he would.

Ok good. Then surely you saw how DC was slowing down?

Any version of Anderson is going to spend some time on his back against DC. But what he showed last night is that DC can't really hurt him and definitely can't finish him. DC also showed that after about 2 rounds of controlling Anderson on the ground he was starting to tire. Everytime the fight got back to its feet DC was moving slower and spending more time exchanging with Silva. The problem last night was that Anderson gassed after round 1 from being out of shape and is all around much slower and less reflexive due to being 41 yrs old.

If you take a young, prime Anderson and you put him in there with DC then I see Anderson finishing him in the 3rd or 4th. He's too skilled off his back and too deadly on the feet.

Anderson is GOAT.

I disagree. Anderson's biggest weakness is TDD. Bad matchup for him. He is capable of catching Cormier (and beating anyone) but Cormier would win against prime Anderson 8 out of 10 times.

Anderson would still spend most of the fight on his back at any stage of his career

like..TS if you watch carefully on some of andersons strikes, in the rare moments he was upright, some of them did hit a target, see there was this guy Daniel Cormier in there too,and he had some of his own strengths that caused Anderson to lose the fight.

DC didn't look good, which isn't surprising considering the whirlwind of a week. I also thought he looked to get the safe win and had respect for Anderson. Took it lightly with the GnP and didn't posture up when his leg wasn't trapped. Probably would've preferred a sub to not damage him since he saved DC's weekend, but Anderson's had a good defensive bottom game, so that was gonna be hard.

Prime vs prime, DC's wrestling and top game is too much, while Anderson's the better striker. I think DC would've won a decision against a younger Silva. Big props to Silva for stepping up, though.

And to be honest I was disappointed DC took Anderson down and played it safe over and over. Anderson was in no shape to wrestle. Killed any excitement, but I get there was a lot on the line for DC and a loss would've been bad since Anderson could then move to 185 and DC would have unavenged losses both to Jones & Anderson. Shit to watch as a fan tho.

It might have something to do with Anderson's defense

I dont expect Cormier to perform optimally in a situation such as this. Look at him at the weigh in staredown. he looked like he didnt care about this fight at all anymore. Beating andy was an afterthought.

Anderson got outstruck and outgrappled by Ryo Chonan.

Outside of Hendo and Rich he fought one dimensional fighters in his reign.

That is beyond a ridiculous measuring bar. Yes, Anderson had a shitty fight 10+ years ago.

As if every fighter he fought since then is worse than Ryo Chonan. Can you show me Ryo's 10 consecutive title defenses or 14 finishes in the top organization in the world?

Are you somehow skipping Vitor Belfort who is tied for most finishes in UFC history and one-dimensionally won with 3 head-kick KOs in a row and broke Jon Jones arm in an armbar attempt (wow, that's a pretty broad skillset for 1 fucking dimension).

At least pretend you're capable of making a salient point.

Cormier is like a triple sonnen. Andy's lucky to come out intact.

I know you're a big fan and all, but Anderson's defensive BJJ isn't that great.
There's about 40 fights to watch for proof of concept.

Cormier wasn't going to go apeshit on a guy that was literally allowing him to make hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Anderson did him a favor taking the fight, so he went easy on him.

So youre position is that DC didn't really try? Ok, we can agree to disagree.

He has one of the best defensive guards in the sport...still. If you need proof of this then go watch Weidman/Anderson...and then watch Weidman/Lyoto and Weidman/Vitor. Go watch Weidman/Rockhold. Go watch Cormier/Anderson and then go watch Cormier/Rumble. Go watch the Chael fights.

Yep. Undeniably. So Anderson can beat the 2nd GOAT LHW. What now sherdog?

That fight would be Anderson-Chael 1 without the triangle

Takes nothing away from Anderson though he's still a MW fighting one of the best LHWs ever and one of the best HWs in the ufc
