Any version of Anderson is going to spend some time on his back against DC. But what he showed last night is that DC can't really hurt him and definitely can't finish him. DC also showed that after about 2 rounds of controlling Anderson on the ground he was starting to tire. Everytime the fight got back to its feet DC was moving slower and spending more time exchanging with Silva. The problem last night was that Anderson gassed after round 1 from being out of shape and is all around much slower and less reflexive due to being 41 yrs old.

If you take a young, prime Anderson and you put him in there with DC then I see Anderson finishing him in the 3rd or 4th. He's too skilled off his back and too deadly on the feet.

Anderson is GOAT.

Full training camp Anderson would've given DC a lot of problems as well
(Im not saying Anderson would win for sure before you Shertards pounce on me)

Doubt it.

Cormier is the pure embodiment of Anderson's weaknesses.

It's possible. This Anderson, with about 30 more seconds, might've beaten Cormier. We really don't know how much he was hurt there in those last moments.

Anderson with a training camp beats Cormier, who lost most of his fans last night for stalling out a decision. The way Cormier gassed, I bet Anderson regretted not opting for a 5 round fight.

I think it would have been close. The Anderson that fought forrest was around 208lb. The Anderson that fought Bonnar was 202lb. The Anderson that fought tonight was about 197lb. That would help his TDD & tire DC out a little more.

I think the fight would go a bit like Conor v Mendes. Anderson gets taken down in rounds one and two, and stops him in the third.

To put things in perspective: A few weeks back, many people would have said that Prime Anderson gets stopped by DC in under two rounds… WELL…

41 year old Anderson, coming off a gall bladder surgery, with zero training, on two days notice, giving up 30lb, with pins in his leg, went all three rounds, took virtually zero damage, and landed the biggest strike of the fight.

I can't say 100% he would win, because it's MMA, and DC is a tough match-up, but after tonight, I honestly don't see DC being any tougher than the Dan Henderson Anderson fought in his prime.

[**In fact a prime Dan Henderson would fair a lot better against DC as well. Remember he was only 199lb as opposed to the 210ish he was in the past].

I was impressed with Anderson even taking this Fight, let alone that he showed he could possibly have won. It also showed that Cormier has a lot of holes in his game.

I think he could have. In my opinion he did surprisingly well given his preparation time and wear and tear.

"(DC) definitely can't finish him.(Anderson Silva)"

Yeah, I disagree.

but PRIME is over. END OF THREAD

"(DC) definitely can't finish him.(Anderson Silva)"

Yeah, I disagree.

Well, yeah I may have stated that a little strongly. Any professional fighter can finish another. But given their styles and skill sets it makes for DC finishing Anderson, especially prime Anderson, very unlikely. But yeah I shouldn't say can't.

It's hard to talk about hypotheticals like this.

DC with a camp specifically preparing for Anderson could conceivably find the tools to overcome Anderson's defensive setup from his back and be able to do some real damage. In this fight DC easily got the fight to the ground, but he had no answer for Silva's ability to control DC's leg.

nope. Cormier would have trained for him proper and put him through the Monster energy drink logo

He looked good and his chin held up. Still think Anderson can be a major player at both 185 and 205. He's not done yet.
