Any version of Anderson is going to spend some time on his back against DC. But what he showed last night is that DC can't really hurt him and definitely can't finish him. DC also showed that after about 2 rounds of controlling Anderson on the ground he was starting to tire. Everytime the fight got back to its feet DC was moving slower and spending more time exchanging with Silva. The problem last night was that Anderson gassed after round 1 from being out of shape and is all around much slower and less reflexive due to being 41 yrs old.
If you take a young, prime Anderson and you put him in there with DC then I see Anderson finishing him in the 3rd or 4th. He's too skilled off his back and too deadly on the feet.
Anderson is GOAT.
This. Tough match up for prime Anderson. He doesn't have many opportunities to stop DC, cause Daniel has heart for days.Doubt it.
Cormier is the pure embodiment of Anderson's weaknesses.
The fact that you believe Weidman/Anderson or Chael/Anderson are examples of good BJJ shows me your level of fandom lolHe has one of the best defensive guards in the sport...still. If you need proof of this then go watch Weidman/Anderson...and then watch Weidman/Lyoto and Weidman/Vitor. Go watch Weidman/Rockhold. Go watch Cormier/Anderson and then go watch Cormier/Rumble. Go watch the Chael fights.
Smart response.DC with a camp specifically preparing for Anderson could conceivably find the tools to overcome Anderson's defensive setup from his back and be able to do some real damage. In this fight DC easily got the fight to the ground, but he had no answer for Silva's ability to control DC's leg.
I don't think he won striking. Cormier landed the better punches.Anderson fought great with no training camp to prepare for and won striking against DC. I believe prime Silva beats DC years 06-11.
Well, I see what you are saying, but young Anderson was not nearly as skilled as current Anderson. You can't have it both ways.
Anyway, It's hard not to respect Anderson after taking this fight on 2 days notice and performing like he did.

I know that if either of those fights were in the ADCC, with the exception of the last 20 seconds of the Chael fight, Anderson was losing all aspects of the grappling exchanges. It just seems you don't know what you're watching Taric
I have to agree with you here. Anderson looked pretty decent. I was surprised at how big he looked too despite not even weighing 200 lbs.Full training camp Anderson would've given DC a lot of problems as well
(Im not saying Anderson would win for sure before you Shertards pounce on me)

I mean, Silva would've been behind by about a dozen points in any BJJ competition in the Chael fight... That kind of stuff doesn't happen.
DC rocked Anderson worse in the first.I have to agree with you here. Anderson looked pretty decent. I was surprised at how big he looked too despite not even weighing 200 lbs.
I remember commenting that I think had he had a full camp he would likely have beaten DC. He certainly rocked DC on the feet.
If someone were to Ko silva in the first 30 seconds,ComebackKid would find a way to pull an anderson in his prime victory outta that
Not getting decimated waiting for a stand up isn't good BJJ. Good BJJ is creating opportunities for scrambles or reversals. You misunderstand. What I am praising about Silva is his defense and ability to avoid damage and control his opponent while on his back no score points in a ADCC tournament.
Thats why if you look at Weidman/Silva you'll see Weidman, who is a beast on top btw, controls AS for a bit and lands a few good gnp shots but you'll also notice how many AS is smothering and missing. You'll see how much Weidman is having to work to try and posture up and land something. Contrast that with Weidman/Vitor and you can see the difference.
Same with Cormier. Cormier landed some good shots and controlled him no doubt but AS ultimately took little damage and forced DC to work very hard. You're not finishing or even hurting AS while he's on his back.
