top king gear looks great!
How do you like your headgear?

The boon headgear outclasses the top king by far! the top king headgear is really stiff and doesn't really adapt to the shape of your head. The boons are softer and provide a better fit. The softness does not affect the level of protection and the leather on it is terrific, superb craftsmanship.

Those shins look like the Dark Knight.

Hahaha never occurred to me... However, if your considering purchasing them then i encourage you to go for it! Top King shin guards are incredibly efficient. Light, durable and they provide the perfect protection. They wont budge during your sparring sessions.

Thanks for the tip. I've been eyeing the TK's for a while to add to my "Dream Team Gear" collection, which is basically a bag's worth of the best gear. Once money frees up and the other reviews are done I'll snag me a pair.

Hey I don't know if anyone's thought of this before but if you could get your hands on enough gear you can do a review and recommend "packages" or combinations/sets of equipment that would compliment each other and would suit the individual needs/styles of different people? Would save a lot of those new to getting their own gear a lot of time. Wouldn't hurt if they matched (in terms of colour not brand) or if the colours go went well together.

Just an idea that popped into my head when you mentioned your "Dream Team Gear", I think it would be a pretty fun (and expensive) project, haha too bad I'm not rich.

What's in your D-Team gear bag so far?

I really don't think that aesthetics are that important. I just think that when it comes to gear one shouldn't look for what looks good. When i purchase my gear i think of quality and efficiency first; looks and color follow. IMHO Thai gear is really good and you do get your moneys worth. Its just that every brand excels in one category.

For Gloves: Raja, Boon, Top King.
Bag Gloves: Top King "Ultimate" bag mitts w/ velcro strap, Twins Training bag gloves w/velcro. (Preferable with closed thumb)
Shin Guards: Top King
Headgear: Twins, Boon and Raja
Hand Wraps: Fairtex and Boon (Elastic Wraps>Regular Wraps)

I will always stick to thai gear :)

I agree with you sir! However, perhaps it's just my personal taste, but there seems to be a pretty high correlation between superior performance/craftsmanship and aesthetics, wouldn't you say so?

Had a business trip I could drive to a few weeks ago and was able to get a workout in while there. I almost had room for my clothes and computer.

Jimbei,

how does the boon headgear compare with the twins?? I've had a twins before and it felt heavy.

I do agree to some extent (when it comes to Thai brands). However, Thai brands don't tend to produce ugly gear. The aesthetics of thai equipment was never an issue imo. I think that muay thai gear looks much more appealing than boxing and kickboxing equipment.

As for how the twins and boon headgear compare, i'd say they're pretty much the same. The twins are maybe just a little bit stiffer.

Im receiving 10 oz Raja boxing lace ups, 12 oz raja gloves w/ velcro, Top King 12 oz lace ups and their new bag mitts. Ill write up a review if you guys are interested.

cheers.

Is there any logic to buying all this gear? is it to increase longevity by using a different pair each training session? thus not wearing out one pair quickly?

All these photos making me want to buy loads more gear lol I only have one of each item

Pretty sure some are just addicts (Like Law Bob Loblaw or however his name goes  ). And others like Clamp SAY they had theirs stolen when in actuality they just keep "losing" pieces and as such have an excuse to feed their addiction.

Let me put it this way. Girls like to buy a shit load of shoes, and we have no f*cking idea why they need so many different pairs of shoes. We think there is no logic behind it, but to them every one of those shoes are vital. Same goes for us and gear. Even though one pair may get the job done, it's nice to have new things to rotate in. lol I hope that makes sense. :icon_chee

When you work out more than 4 days a week you barely have time to air out your gloves. So unless you want your gloves to stink it is essential IMO to use more than 2 pairs. Especially if the weather is humid. I wash my hand wraps after every workout and the gloves will still stink after a month or two of usage.

Update on my gears.

My 14oz. Protex 3 are stuck in usps limbo, hopefully they'll get here soon. I'll probably wind up selling them anyways.

Amen to that my friend!! My lady has a billion pairs of shoes and they are worth a lot more than all my Winning stuff combined.

I'll never consider my gear addiction to be bad until I start using terms like "retail therapy" and "shopaholic".

On a semi-related note, my nephew has probably 5k worth of games (PS3 and Xbox) and nobody gives him a hard time about it.

What about smokers, drinkers or gamblers? I bet they plough through a lot more dough than the average Sherdogger with 3 pairs of boxing gloves.

Just my .02, why not spend money on what you like? life's too short to be penny pinching all the time.

After months of accumulating gear and with a lot of help from this forum, here is my latest training gear minus some handwraps that were in the wash. All that's left is a custom mouth guard after my Invisalign treatments are done. :icon_chee
