Poatan vs. Jon Jones - Who wins if it materializes?

Who wins?

at the end of the fight Thiago had no knees.

But the most important take away

Jones won both those fights.

Beating Gus, twice.
I think Reyes beat Jones 48-47 and most of the media did too.

Reyes is not by any means a better fighter than Jones but he was better that night. Jones got gifted a decision there.

Eh unfortunately Reyes left it subjectively to the judges

He didnt do enough in the judges eyes, which is why (especially at LHW) never leave it in the hands of the judges

So he lost.

Still crying about the possibility of your boy being exposed huh. Sucks to be you. Remember son, its MMA not Glory.

I'm not even sure who you're referring to as "my boy"

I dont like Jones. I do like Alex but he would get submitted within a round by Jones. I'm not delusional like the people who think this is a good match just cuz its champ v champ. It's a forgone conclusion. Alex is 1 dimensional which is exactly the type of opponent jones likes.

Jones feeds on 1D or old fighters. It's too bad he was too scared of the risk of the 2013-2016 HW division. Those guys were well rounded, not too old yet and similar in size to Jones. Makes sense as to why Jone didn't do HW till now

It wouldn't even be a fun fight with current Jones. Young Jones would have stood with Alex for a bit at least, to test out his own striking against him.

Present Jon is going to shoot for the legs as soon the bell rings, he fights way more hesitant and risk adverse now.

Pereira is my favorite fighter but Jones is trying to get this fight for a reason.
The reason is it's likely his last fight and wants biggest fight possible n if Pereria beats Ank then Pereria v Bones is the biggest mma fight ever imo hype wise. The biggest star n draw vs the "undefeated" GOAT in his "last" fight. Do t think I can thi k of a bigger fight

Alex has a chance insofar as he's an athletic, tall, rangy dude with lots of power in his hands and some of the most lethal calf kicks in the game. He is absolutely capable of hurting Jon on the feet for as long as it stays there given what we've seen from Jon against similar match-ups in the past.

That said, I'm not convinced it stays on the feet for any significant length of time. As much as I sometimes criticize Jon's grappling in the latter stages of his career at 205, it has lately looked quite dominant. I mean he tossed Stipe to the mat with ease early in the fight and brutalized him from top position. He took Gane down and submitted him right away. The big knock on Pereira from critics is "This guy hasn't fought a good grappler yet and he's still untested in that arena and whenever people do grapple him he tends to get taken down". Meanwhile, with JBJ, aside from a handful of fights at the tail end of his second run at 205 he's always been acknowledged as one of the most dangerous MMA grapplers the sport's ever seen: a very talented wrestler with a lethal & oppressive top game.

Poatan has impressed me with his ability to maintain composure and defend himself from submissions/GnP after getting taken down and to find opportunities to return to his feet when they present themselves. He has a good core set of defensive grappling skills for a primary striker who transitioned very late to MMA... but I'm just not convinced they'd manifest against an elite MMA grappler of Jon's caliber. It's also worth noting that Jon is historically pretty good at absorbing damage and sticking to his gameplan. Santos beat the fuck out of his legs and admittedly made that fight way closer than it should have been... but Jon hung in there. Jones also has a fantastic chin on him. I mean think about all the dangerous strikers he fought, a lot of them in or near their prime: Shogun, Gus, Machida, Belfort, Santos, Reyes, etc. and he's been hit clean more than a few times yet the worst we can say is that he's been put off-balance once or twice. Never truly rocked & dropped.

I think Bones wins a good 80% of the time. Probably eats some nasty shots here and there, but ultimately finds his takedowns and spends minutes at a time grinding Poatan out and busting him up with GnP. I'd say he probably softens Alex up and finishes him via TKO or sub sometime in the second half of the fight. I'm leaving that 20% out there for Poatan to make something happen because I think being an active fighter has its benefits. Plus if Pereira really shows me massive improvements in his defensive wrestling & ground game against Ankalaev, that would speak volumes to me -- especially because Jones is sitting around on the sidelines rusting away and small parts of Pereira's striking game could theoretically pose a legitimate risk to a version of Jones who isn't dialed in based on previous incidents.

You know exactly who "your boy" is you moron. You have a insultingly attacked anybody who defended the notion of Pereira fighting Jones. You're allowing your Jones hate to shit on the entire sport of MMA. You're in favor of protecting a weak champ because you think you already know the outcome? You would rather the UFC protect a weak champ from the previous champ because the previous champ has better wrestling? I like Alex and I dislike Jones as much as anybody, but It's MMA boy, and apparently you don't like it. Now quit your fucking crying and go to a kickboxing forum.

Jones would submit him or TKO via GNP

That being said it’s weird because we have Jones almost losing to Reyes & Santos but styles make fights

The numbers don't lie, many have tried to be Jon Jones - all have failed. His one loss, he beat himself. Picking anyone to beat Jones ever shows that you have faulty wiring in your brain somewhere.

According to police, Moses had blood “around her lips, chin and all over her sweatshirt” along with a swollen lower lip, with officers stating she “seemed scared to even talk about” Jones.

The initial call to police came after Moses went to the security desk at the hotel asking for a key to her room, which is when a guard noticed that she had blood on her lip and clothing. The report states Moses began tearing up and she said she was scared to go back to her room, with one of their children asking, “Can you call the cops?”

After police conducted an initial interview with Moses, who didn’t want to be recorded and declined to fill out a voluntary statement, she asked the officers, “How long do I have until he is out?”

“She still seemed very scared as to the release of Jonathan from jail,” the report said.

As for the former UFC light heavyweight champion, police said that he was read his Miranda rights but then became “extremely agitated” and stated that he will have a “huge lawsuit” filed against the police department for putting him in handcuffs “on the biggest night of his life.”

Jones pokes him in the eyes then takes him down and gets the sub

Jones vs a guy who got outwrestled by Israel at MW

I sure like Alex a hell of a lot more but his chances are slim to none. That opening 45 second standing will be the most dangerous of Jon's career though.
That's my thought, too, but Jones' wrestling at LHW seemed to diminish a lot around 5 years ago when he was going to decision with everyone.

However, it's looked a lot better at HW. Not only the Gane takedown/submission but that TD he got on Stipe was nasty followed by some GnP. I favor Jones at HW and even at LHW if he can pull of that kind of grappling again. I just don't know why it disappeared for a while.

Biggest fight ever???

😂

we already know it doesn't take much for jones to put a kickboxer on their ass and choke them.

The Santos fight was a clinic

Jones stood with a kickboxer and ended his career

What is it guys? My original prediction ever since November 2024 was a tight 3-2 for JJ... Like a JJ vs Reyes
