Poatan vs. Jon Jones - Who wins if it materializes?

Who wins?

Very bad matchup for Alex I feel, Jones is just so good with his wrestling, and his top game is savage, he ain't content to just clamp down on the leg and hold the back for 5 minutes like a lot of them that we know!. It will be hard to survive for Alex, unless he has some amazing escapes and can keep getting up.

Just imagine the opportunity Poatan will have to face the so called GOAT and even a slim chance he has to defeat him. I think Poatan will relish the opportunity and try to finish Jones early. It would be one of the biggest upsets of all-time.

It would be massive if he can topple a giant like Jones.

It's certainly a puncher's chance, but it's worth the try.
seriously 2010 acct
you still cant figure this sht out

Won't happen but it would be awesome if ap knocks him out snatches that 3rd belt and retires on the spot

Alex is too slow. He can't stop the takedown from Jones. Jones does his best work when he makes contact. Watching that video of DC playing around with Alex doesn't give me confidence that he can stop Jones from making the initial contact.

I hate Jon Jones especially in how he is ducking Aspinall and trying to hold off what rightfully Aspinall is deserving of, but this is not even a competitive fight. Jon Jones will take him down and submit him faster than he did Ciryl Gane.

Jon Jones has an exceptional ground game. There's no reason to believe Jon wouldn't be able to take him down. Unless he has improved his takedown defense significantly I can't imagine it's going to be pretty for him
The Jones that fought Stipe or even Gane yes.. walks through Alex

The Jones who fought Reyes and Thiago gets mauled.

I guess it depends on which vitamins Jones is taking.

Jon had a tough time keeping Reyes down, so if you’re very athletic you can keep it standing. Maybe Alex has improved his grappling enough to keep it standing. No lie, I know what I’m saying is wishful thinking 😂.

Young Jones had that 'fuck that' mentality where he'd go out and beat fighters at their best game. Old Jones wouldn't do that (look at the Gane fight for example) and play it a lot smarter.

Hate to say it, but I don't give Poatan a chance here.

I want to say Jon but this will be the first time Jon faces a tall, long fighter that's a better striker than him and has dynamite in both hands. We've never seen Jon fight a fighter like that. It was supposed to rumble but we know why that fight fell through.

And before y'all start talking about Gus, Gus wasn't a power striker. He was a volume guy.

If there was ever a guy that could knock out Jon it would be asked Alex. I'm still picking jon though.

No. Jon Jones has the best MMA grappling of all time. Yes even better than the eastern European folks who all look suspiciously the same for some reason.

If a 31-32 Jon Jones can struggle to keep Dominic Reyes or Thiago Santos down...

Then it is certain not inconceivable that a 37 or 38 year old Jon Jones could struggle to keep Alex Pereira down.

Jon and Alex are the same age... but it has USUALLY (Hendo, DC, Stipe, Weidman, Romero, Rampage, Aldo, Frankie...) been the pattern that MMA fighters tend to gravitate AWAY from wrestling heavy approaches as they get older due to the taxing, cardio draining nature of wrestling and the likelihood that accumulated injuries over the years tend to cause more issues with grappling than with striking.

I don't think this fight ever happens.

If it does, which presumably means both men can get past Ankalaev and Aspinal respectively,
Alex has more of a chance than most people are giving him.

Jon Jones is obviously waiting to see if Poatan comes off victorious against Ankalaev. (Which the fight can go either way)

Say if Poatan wins, who do you have if Poatan moves up and challenges for the HW belt?

Will it even be competitive?

Sorry OP but this is the most predictable matchup since Jones vs Sonnen or GSP vs Hardy. I forget which one was more recent

Alex Pereira has been taken down in the cage by everyone who has attempted one on him.
Jon Jones has amazing grappling and takedowns. It’s gonna be a short night.

Can we really say jones struggled to keep santos, down? He only attempted 1 takedown the entire 25 minutes. And Jon’s wrestling looked rejuvenated against stipe and gane. Alex would have to be better than he’s shown if he has any hopes of beating Jon. One would have to be very optimistic confidently picking Alex unfortunately.

Poatan wont have eyes after the end of this fight that will never happen.

I like Poatan and dislike Jones but this is a bad matchup for Alex. Jones by sub or GNP TKO.
