This is his last weight cut. He was clearly having a hard time



And how about cutting to 185? At the age of 35+?

He had a 5 round war with Izzy and managed to comeback with a TKO

TJ, Jonny Walker and others suffered from severe dehydration. So did Poatan with Izzy 2. A fight he was winning

He actually retired from 185 in kickboxing since it was too much of a cut at his age, but in MMA he bit down and stayed there for several more fights. Guy must have felt like shit.



I dont really get how he is a natural HW though. He's very thin and not that agile for a guy that isn't that powerful. He would have had a lot of problems fighting at HW in KB.

His cut to 205 isnt too bad imo, most LHWS like the Ortiz, Liddell, Coutures, Jackson’s were between 220-235lbs, and I could never see them ever making 185. Hell Ortiz could only got 200lbs before his body starting giving out trying to get to 195lbs agwinst Anderson. Badr Hari made Pereira look small in their interactions together.

Great fighter but I don't know if I'm very keen on applauding huge weight cuts. It's not really the kind of achievement that makes the sport better in my view. You also don't cut to make things a challenge for you, you're doing it to have a size advantage if you're that big.

It's really the least compelling part of his UFC run imo.

I'm not saying otherwise, just saying he is not a natural heavyweight. Any tall person could be 230 pounds and be lean, that's still a bit off from being a legit heavyweight. A legit heavyweight is like 250 pounds.

No one would starve to 185 if they could fight at HW easily.

Yes KO’ing Izzy and Strickland were great accomplishments at MW. I concur that he was winning that second fight before getting too aggressive and KO’d. But it would appear that aggression served him well in this Ank hematch.

Not that Israel is a hard hitter, but he's still a high level kickboxer, def can't just swarm him like that.

Ank on the other hand is also not that hard of a hitter but doesn't have anywhere near the skill of Izzy. It makes a lot of sense that Poatan showed no respect and just decided to run him over. I think the fact that he knew Ank can't take him down this time greatly freed up his offense.
