#1 Jon Jones 14-0 (1nc )
#2 Tito 6- 2
#3 (tied) Frank Shamrock 5-0
Poatan 5-1
Chuck 5-2

#6 DC 4-1 (1nc)
#7 Randy 3-3
#8 tied Rampage, Machida, Jan : 2 wins

If my math and memory is correct

Potential is 6-2 overall in title fights counting his MW run, which is tied with DC

He is at this point beginning to knock on the door of GOAT territory as 3x champ, 2 division champ and 6 title fight wins.

Not quite there yet imo, but another win or two and he is in the peripheral region of GOATs talks...
If by some miracle he won a HW title fight that might put him in Conversation for proper GOAT, but that is a very tall order

He joins GSP and Randy (5x) as 3x champs

6 title wins still trails

Jones 16/(17)
Gsp 13
MM 12
Anderson 11
Nunes 11 (supposedly coming out of retirement to fight Kayla)
Schev 10 (still active)
Hughes 9
Aldo 8 + 3 WEC
Izzy 8
Volk 7 (still active)

he should be #3 greatest LHW behind DC and Jon

DC at LHW is 7-1-1

Wins over

Barista Cummins who was a part-time fighter
Post-TRT ban Hendo
Rumble x2
Gus
Short notice, off the couch past prime Anderson
Volkan

Rumble, Gus and Volkan are his only notable wins at LHW and Gus was a razor close, evenly fought SD FOTY candidate. He was always a paper champ at the weight too since Bones was the lineal #1. DC isn't anywhere close to the 2nd greatest LHW.

sure, you have your opinion

Rumble and Gus are better than any of Pereira's opponents though, and they'd most def be the heavy favorites against Pereira head to head.

But nobody can argue that Pereira doesn't have more title defenses than DC, so I guess that makes him "greater".

Rumble and Gus being better than Jiri is questionable at least especially Gus who's most notable feats in MMA are his losses. Jiri undeniably has a better resume and is a tough fight for both. The only fighter who's beaten Jiri at LHW in the last 12 years is Poatan... Jiri's last loss at LHW outside of Alex was in 2013, his 8th career fight.

Jiri is 26-3-1 the last 12 years and 2 of those losses are to Poatan and the other to Lawal at HW which he avenged. And he's beaten Nemkov, Albrektsson, Cappelozza, Lawal, Volkan, Reyes, Glover, Rakic, Jamahal, Rountree.

We all love Jiri, but come on bro

Both Jiri and Gus' best win is Glover. You can say Gus was more impressive in the performance, sure, but besides that win he only has Jan and .... Jimi Manuwa? He fought a completely past prime, injury-torn version of Shogun who got choked by Sonnen months later. Who else has Gus beaten? Thiago Silva? Janitor? Matt Hamill? Cyrille Diabate? Te Huna?

Gus had 2 of the most inspiring losing efforts ever against Bones and DC but he still lost both fights. Got stopped in the 1st by Davis and Rumble 2 of the only other elite primed LHWs he fought. Jiri is actually a really tough H2H matchup for Gus too and has a way better resume. Gus being better than Jiri is doubtful.

Gus' prime was short lived, sure, but Jiri would get pieced up by prime Gus and Rumble, and both guys would take Jiri down if they choose.

Currently, LHW is one of the least talented divisions in the modern era. Glover didn't all of a sudden get better at 40 years old, the division just sucked.

Prime Gus was still getting lit up by Jan on the feet and needed TDs to win a decision. Jiri is a better scrambler than Jan, has great getups and submitted Glover, the only fighter to ever accomplish that. Gus could take Jiri down but he's getting back up and has better submission grappling. Jiri is the better conditioned fighter, does better the later fights go, while Gus slowed down by rounds 4/5. Jiri has a clear edge in power and Gus doesn't have the stopping power to KO him. Gus could look good early, but would be getting pressured more and more and eventually succumb to it.

Rumble lost at welterweight. He hits hard but Alex would starch him. Gus as well

What works against Poatan for me in these GOAT convos is the fact that he hasn’t had to do much to get these title shots. Yes, it’s still impressive that he’s beaten the guys he has.

But Chuck Liddell had a 10 fight win streak that included beating Monson, Randleman, Guy Mezger, Bustamante, Vitor Belfort, and Babalu before he got his first LHW TS.

Poatan just had to beat an old Jan Blachowicz to get his shot, because of his being a former MW champ, which he once again didn’t have to do much to get that TS because of his history with Izzy.

Then you’ve gotta decide how to factor in things like PRIDE not making every fight a title defense. Shogun, for example: was on a 4 fight win streak before entering the 2005 GP, where he beat Rampage, Little Nog, Overeem, and Arona to win his title. He then won his next 4 fights (Diabate, Randleman, Nakamura, and Overeem again) but none of those are technically title defenses.

Poatan’s title defense stats are good, but his overall LHW resume is just not nearly as deep as others.

I just realized what a shame it is we never got Jiri vs Rumble.
