Opinion PINO - Populist In Name Only

I think a big problem with her, is that you could tell she was trying to maintain relevancy after picking a fight she shouldn't have in a seemingly opportune time, and put all her eggs into a basket of "Maybe I can be a Liberal hero, now that Trumpism is dying?". She read the tea leaves wrong, and suffered for it. A lot of Republicans did the same after Jan 6th.

They hopped off of a boat that had a hole in it, and misjudged how big it was. Only the smart ones jumped back in once they used some duct tape to patch it up. Ted Cruz was the guy helping them back in, while saying "I get it."

The ones who didn't? Well, they end up like Liz Cheney.
I don't really disagree with that and weirdly I feel like that is kind of playing out now post Trump's second election. There always seems to be an overestimation by some about the permanence of movements. Like you said some Republicans really thought that Trumpism was over after Jan. 6th. I'd argue it should have been but of course we know how that played out. I'm not going to defend Liz Cheney and I think Kamala taking her on tour was really a mistake, just pointing out there is an absolute need to capitulate to Trump if you want to be in the Republican Party now.

The right needs far fewer pragmatist defeatists.

It's like, name the issue. If it's gun rights or border security, I'm far right. If it's conservation law or public lands, I'm far left. There is no centrism, and these things are also like comparing apples to orangutans. Neither of these parties work, bring back the Bull Moose.
We do need the Bull Moose back.

Can it even happen in this environment? You’d need someone outside of politics who carries a huge following to make it happen.

Don't tell Peter Thiel.

I doubt you're his type.

Welcome to the resistance buddy. Keep an eye on your email for instructions on your new pronouns, and give your Soros check about 3-5 business days to arrive.
Watch out for the tranny reach arounds

You guys should have another crack at Ranked Choice Voting.

Two party system is so weird and stupid.

The amount of corruption in this administration is staggering. It’s like this time he decided to forgo all pretense of morality and rob the whole country.

Hopefully people that supported him start to wake up and realize it. I am feeling very pessimistic about it these days. I think he’s going to ruin our country and ride off into the sunset with billions and billions he scammed

Doubt. He is one of one in American history.

And to this day, Bull Moose is still the only independent third-party in US political history to ever cut into the binary stranglehold by outperforming either of the two dominant party candidates in a POTUS election. This is a great thread, though. @Mr Holmes following through.

Better late than never @Mr Holmes . People will shit on this thread but good on you for doing what few in the WR tend to ever do, change your mind on something.

People have to start seeing how bad this term is. The guy is floating deporting US citizens at this point. I don’t see how the guy should be supported at all. He’s illiberal trash.

Is he already on your Inverse Mount Rushmore?

Also, populism is bad. The critique on Trump shouldn’t be his populism isn’t populist enough but rather than populism lacks any principles behind it and go south quickly.
Surprised to hear you say this. Challenging institutions that have become complacent and anti-democratic is in fact a good thing.

There’s a balance. The whole being a democracy and a republic. I lean much more to institutions and process. Markets are where you don’t want things complacent.
