Obviously boxers like Maywaether, Pacquiao, Armstrong and Hearns could be added to a number of weights. . That's fine. . . Pick eight boxers that have or could legitimately fight at a weight and make an all time tournament.

Mine would be at 200 lbs. . . I would have: Joe Louis, Joe Frazier, Rocky Marciano, Jack Dempsey, Evander Holyfield, Roy Jones Jr., Dwight Muhammad Qawi and David Haye.. . . . Seven of the eight won the heavyweight title but all fought at or under 200 lbs.

You want a ranked bracket? Like 1 vs 8, 4 vs 5? For yours, I would have Holyfield and Louis in the final, with Louis winning. It's hard to determine though, because Jones at 200 pounds only really applies to the Ruiz fight as far as I know.

I guess I would try Bantamweight if I had to pick, but it would be really tough. For most fighters outside of a few divisions, I have very limited knowledge pre 1950 or so. I try to go by what I've seen, so I would rank Olivares and Zarate very high because I love power punchers with a proven track record. I most likely would have a lower ranking of a guy like Jofre than I should. This may be a job better suited to more experienced posters.

I don't know enough about Greb to venture a guess, unsure if there's any footage of him in a full fight. I'm surprised you have Golovkin on this list, and I think Monzon, Jones, and Hagler beat him badly. I think Robinson and Hearns were better at different weights, but its an interesting list. I think Jones wins this one actually. I love Monzon and Hagler, but I'd still favor a prime Jones. Monzon would be second, followed by Hagler.

I like having a modern fighter or two involved in these match-ups to put everything in perspective. When fighters are separated by 50 years or more it is very hard to judge them against each other. Imagine getting the chance to see GGG fight Hearns, and Hagler fight Robinson. We'd have a MUCH better idea of who these guys really are.

I am not as convinced as some people are that fighters from yesteryear were so much more talented than current fighters. I believe that GGG is a serious fight for any middleweight in history. I see no evidence to suggest otherwise.

I would probably pick lesser fighters who were fun to watch to make a pleasing tourney. Gatti, Mancini, Pazienza... guys like that. Everyone always says What if Leonard and Robinson fought????!?!?!

Well sure, but how about prime Gatti vs Vinny Paz and 135? Winner gets the winner of say, Mancini vs Edwin Valero.

Cool thread

175

Hearns
Kovalev
Jones Jr
Michalzweski

Bob Foster needs to be on this list somewhere
Basically, remove Ward as he has yet to fight at 175, and add Foster in his place.

Sounds good, although Charles and Walcott are missing.

Louis vs. Jones Jr would be interesting.
