Goldfish apparently adapt to their home, if you leave them in a small fishbowl they stay small, put them in a bigger aquarium they grew a bit bigger, throw them in a pond or lake they get huge

I had goldfish from December 1991 to November 1997 in a 10 gallon aquarium and they grew fucking huge in that thing, they could barely turn around anymore, so we just ended up giving them to a local hotel that had probably a 200 gallon aquarium in their lobby. Not sure how they fared after that.

Exactly. Looks awesome. Also, with how we have used and discarded goldfish for decades, having them become part of our eco system seems like a fair end.
I just read a bit more about it . They ruin the flora of the lake by eating all of the bacteria and algae at the bottom, which causes a disruption in the lakes ecosystem. Its apparently a big problem in North America. people dumping their goldfishes in lakes and they multiply by tens of thousands.

This makes me want to put a goldfish in a lake, if anything

Better for them being in the lake than in those horrible small fishbowls. Fishbowls should be banned; considered as animal cruelty.
That’s so cool I’m going to go buy a bunch of them and release them into local waterways.

Goldfish reintroduced to the environment are considered an invasive species, an organism that is not indigenous, or native, to a particular area that can cause great economic and environmental harm.

"Please don't release your pet goldfish into ponds and lakes! They grow bigger than you think and contribute to poor water quality by mucking up the bottom sediments and uprooting plants," the city said in a tweet.

The city has partnered with the city of Apple Valley and Carp Solutions to conduct a fish survey on Keller Lake to assess populations of invasive goldfish and other fish in the lake.

"Instead of releasing your pet goldfish in a local lake or pond, please consider other options for finding them a new home like asking a responsible friend or neighbor to care for it." the city of Burnsville said in a Facebook post.

I’m disappointed, this thread didn’t show how the fisherman went from being a chubby couch potato to a ripped and shredded Navy SEAL

It's sad when the best alternative they can come up with is to push it off on a friend or neighbor. Gold fish get no respect, I tell ya.

Hard to imagine them surviving anywhere with largemouth bass. Bass love to eat those things. I believe some guys buy them from the pet store as bait.

So fun fairs still give you a goldfish in a bag of water as a prize?

I dont even necessarily disagree but I think goldfish are literally too simple minded to care/suffer
