PBP PFL Super Fights: Battle of the Giants: Ngannou vs Ferreira ***Sherdog Discussion*** 10/19 1:30PM ET (ESPN+/DAZN PPV)

I don't think anyone is doubting he's the superior MMA fighter to Gane, but Gane is arguably one of the worst grapplers at HW, of course he won the fight.

His ACL was more than fine against Lewis where he was also outlanded, the guy is simply a mediocre technical striker with insane power.

Francis was smart enough to avoid trading tonight.
Yeah, Francis sure got out landed in a fight where each guy only threw like 10 total strikes with only like 4 of BB's landing.

Did Ngannou talk about those calf kicks? Seems like he got fucked up by those 2 and went to crotch sniffer mode.

Not all MMA grappling is crotch sniffing. If you take someone down to brutally bash their skull in you're not a crotch sniffer.

If you take them down to hold and tenderly embrace for 25 minutes, you are one.

Francis has improved since the Lewis fight, and exponentially at that. I'm not sure what those two fights four years apart, against two vastly different opponents and incredibly different circumstances have to do with one another outside of being invoked to dump on Francis irrationally. All good. Enjoy yourself.

He's had 6 fights since then and is 38 years old. All respect but I can't re-call him really improving his technique on the feet since then.

He's still the same guy physically pushing 40, he merely fights smarter than he did in his early/mid 30's.

Randy said Frank went the wrong way during he takedown. Should he have gone left...technically speaking?

Francis has undoubtedly improved since the Stipe I and Lewis fights. A part of improving is having better fight IQ, and sharpening your tools, realizing how to use them. If you can't see he's gotten better, I certainly won't change your mind, but it's obvious to me the guy who fought Stipe the second time is much better than the fighter who fought him in their first bout.

A couple were hitting his left glove and side of his head, then the ones that actually all put him out were to the back of the head.

I swear in MMA these days only a couple of rules matter. Back of the head shots are fine if it gets the finish, you get at least one eye poke and dick kick, constantly grabbing the cage is just endless warnings.
Funny thing is that Renan actually got DQ once for exactly that...

But indeed, this is seldom applied. You know how refs give warnings for grabbing the cage, they also do this for dangerous shots. And while I get that these can be unintentional, in GNP situations where the guy is already half dead, this isn't really acceptable. And even unintentional, it would still warrant a NC.

The bigger and stronger you are the more leeway you have have to be less technically correct.

The guy he brought to the ground was 6'8 and over 260lbs, an Islam Mackachev is not stopping a Francis takedown.

WHy is HE smotherman??

Why cant Mackenzie dern be Smotherman?

I thought Francis was gonna wrestlefuck Renan if the standup would be evenly matched or sway in Renan's favour in the opening round. Renan landed a few calf kicks and a 1-2 combination upstairs before Francis just bumrushed him.

No argument there, horrific grappler.
Which is too bad honestly, because his striking style is quite uncommon at this weight class, and has literally earned him 3 TS (counting the interim), and maybe a fourth if he wins his next fight.

I think he didn't have to work as much as most people to be competitive, and just found out he was good at it. But I think this is making it harder for him to work on his ground game. He won't make it if he doesn't get a least a decent TDD. He's already quite elusive, it would be a good combination.
