People crying about OMalley tonight

The UFC did everything they could to get the belt around Sean… Robbing Yan and getting him a shot after only one ranked win, forcing Aljo to fight in a quick turnaround, even tonight it was clear as day with the scorecards and Herbs terrible ref job. All that for a guy who can’t even crack 300k buys with stacked cards

You don't like MMA.

You like striking. Or maybe twitch or tik tok.

Sean was largely only where he was due to favourable match making until the title shot.

A guy whose grappling is that poor should never be champ.

He was embarrassingly bad. His grappling is so bad, he couldn't do anything effective tonight. Merab must have thrown double the strikes he did too.

If you're upset about tonight, be upset at OMalley for being so embarrassingly crap in key components of the sport that he supposedly trains full time for.

He looked a complete newb in there.

He basically got a title shot off one win - Yan. And even that was a bs decision that realistically he lost. He didn't beat anyone else of note before getting Aljo.

Very lucky boy who got exposed tonight

Sean isn't going anywhere. He's young and can be back in a title fight a year or so from now depending on how things shake out. He knows he needs to improve his grappling.

I'm here to eat my crow with salt and all the fixins.

I said Sean would easily get the KO but I was wrong.

Merab is a better MMA athlete, although I have a hard time calling him a fighter because he never causes damage and can't finish anybody.

I patiently await Umar to rid Merab of the belt and bring in a champ who is actually exciting.

Don’t tell me what I like, pal

You could say the same in reverse, a guy with no striking shouldn’t be champ

Props to Merab for winning, but it’s whatever

Whenever there's a shitty fight there's always a thread like this where someone virtue signals about being a better MMA fan because they pretend to have appreciated it.
Nah this one's on you. It wasn't a shitty fight. Merab is so active, he might not be a finisher but he is fun to watch. Just because he holds people down doesn't mean he just lays on them like Jon Fitch.

Those close score cards were insane.

Maybe you give sean the 5th - outside of that he was dominated.
Had to have been the 3rd and 5th. 3rd was kinda close so they gave it to the popular champ. 5th I guess the body kicks were the story of the round.

I had it 49-46. Could have seen 50-45, but the two rounds you could in theory give omalley they went and gave him. The other 3 there was no way to give him.

How can anyone claim that fight was an indication of poor grappling when Merab did the same thing or worse to Cejudo?

Sean's grappling was a lot worse than I thought it would be. Merab literally never holds guys down for long. He held O'Malley down with no problem.
