You don't get points in modern MMA for control with no damage. So if you hold someone down for 4 minutes, and they get up and punch you 3-4 times, they win the round. You need to be active with your top control and do damage, take risks. That's how it works. If you don't like it, stop watching the UFC.

You're not wrong but the problem is that isn't a consistent thing.

Here is the stats for Pantoja vs Royval 2 (10 ufc ppvs ago not even a year) Pantoja lands ZERO strikes in round 4 just lays on top. Wins the round on all 3 score cards.

Only 1 judge gave royval one round and it was 5. When he clearly won rounds 3 4 and 5. (4 by the metric that you're arguing, I don't disagree with it)

Just a weird thing about mma. Sometimes laying and praying works. hence the praying.

I saw Merab landing knees to the head, doing some decent ground and pound and then Om alley settling into turtle and guard to prevent Merab landing more finishing shots.

In comparison Omalley threw 2 bottle kicks and a hook after Merab kissed him in 25 mins of fighting...

Omalley could have actually throw some offence at some point instead of just trying to survive for 25 mins.
He literally refused to open up except for 1 min of the 5th round when he finally came forward. Omalley is the reason we didn't get much in that fight.
Merab was trying to finish but is hampered by the rules.
