People crying about OMalley tonight

Nah I like MMA. I like fighting. Taking someone down and holding them and stopping them from moving is not fighting. Punching, kicking, choking... this is violence; you should be trying to cause damage or go for a finish. Smothering someone is neither of those things, it's just stalling and stopping the action. It's like holding in boxing. they should break that shit up. Would love to see a ban on this kind of wrestling tbh.

Merab does it to everyone he fights. Makes them look like they don’t belong in the octagon with him.
Nobody has been so thoroughly dominated. He beat Aldo but couldn't get him down, beat Yan who instantly got back up and was cut by a single exchange involving a head clash even CCC had moments and Marlon nearly finished him. This narrative of Merab dominating isn't true. He has been winning, but mostly via pure volume of takedown attempts and wall wrestling.

O'malley on the other hand just got dominated for 5 rounds. Sean landed on average less than 10 strikes each round and most were body jabs or shots that led to him getting taken down. Merab hasn't had success holding any other top guy down like that. 2 good kicks in the last round that were overblown by Rogan and DC. He wasn't seriously hurt, he just didn't want to give Sean anything in the fight he was winning.

Merab nearly finished Omalley in 2 rounds via ground and pound. He only held him at the end of the 2nd and end of the 5th.
The rest of the time he was landing ground and pound in the exchanges against the cage and had Omalley face down covering up on multiple occasions.

I can guarantee if the roles were reversed they probably would have even stopped the fight for O’Malley, especially the way Herb was behaving

He was hurt and looked up at the clock or something. Dude is weird. He ragged dolled Henry the Olympic gold medalist.

100%. He did exactly what Aljo did and turned his back or buried his head under so Merab couldn't keep kneeing him.
The most sig strike of the fight was after Merab let him up and walked away.

I was waiting for him to pull another acting job off of a “foul”. People give Aljo tons of shit, but always seem to forget O’Malley was in the same position earlier in his career and cried his way to victory.

Don't get me wrong they were sig strikes, but it's not like he dropped him at all. If those two body shots were enough to overcome a 2-1 strike differential, 2 takedowns and 1 minute of control time, then surely Sal Damato and Chris Lee ( who judged Omalley's last fight) would have been consistent and gave Vera the 5th round when Omalley got hurt and dropped late?

Oh wait... Sal gave that a 10-8 for Omalley. Omalley definitely won that round, but vera actually had him retreating like Merab did multiple rounds in that fight and dropped him at the end with that bodyshot. Omalley won that round but it wasn't one side after the first minute. Vera had Omalley retreating just like Merab was but somehow it was a 10-8.

Official Result: Sean O’Malley defeats Marlon Vera by unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-44)

He looked like he wanted out a few times, but I will give Omalley credit he didn't quit during that fight.
I am waiting for the injury excuses, but the reality is, he just can't deal with someone who won't lead and let him counter.
The same thing was happening in the Pedro fight.
Pedro was happy to sit at range and just counter him and Omalley couldn't get going.

The takedowns won him the fight, but the gameplan is there now. Counter takedowns, movement and making Omalley have to lead.
Hopefully we see him and Sandhagen next.

I didn't say Merab did this. I was responding to TS that anyone that dislikes stalling-wrestlers doesn't like MMA.

My mistake my friend. I just saw the random post with no one quoting and assumed you thought Merab was pulling a Schev. Merab was working trying to get Omalley out of there, whilst Omalley just tried to survive and not get finished.

Oh really?

3rd round stats:
17 sig strikes of 25 total vs 11 sig strikes 11 total.

5th round stats:
10 sig strikes for 25 total vs 11 sig strikes 11 total.

Official Result: Merab Dvalishvili defeats Sean O'Malley by unanimous decision (49-46, 48-47, 48-47)'Malley by unanimous decision (49-46, 48-47, 48-47)

Merab landed more sig head strikes (55) than Omalley landed total strikes throughout the fight.
That's even with the UFC counting all bar 2 of O'malleys strikes as sig strikes... he landed 47 sig strikes of his 49 total.

I think maybe you should rewatch the fight.
Only one judge got the scoring correct.

Yes because O'malley throwing single shots at range praying for a 1 shot KO when he is losing means it was a close fight...
Merab won 9/10 exchanges in that fight, landed more sig strikes(nearly double) took O'malley down and had the fight close to being finished in multiple rounds.
Omalley shouldn't have even gotten a round in that fight. He was thoroughly outclassed just like he did the same to Chito.
you already entertained me bro, no need to double down. i already laughed. relax

Sean was very manufactured and essentially got a title shot because he survived the distance and was competitive vs one top 10 ranked opponent, even though he clearly didnt win. I'd have expected people to have been kind of happy that he lost and found some entertainment value in seeing it. Or do you just want a bunch of manufactured stand and wangers as champs?
