Payton Talbott hype train derailed as fast as it started

I.dunno, +750 fights(or a lot worse) happen all the time at every level of MMA.

7/1 or 8/1 underdogs should be pretty rare at the UFC level, but they are a natural part of the reality of fighting.

Yes, flukes happen, but most of the time the best fighter wins.

I like to gamble immaterial amounts of money on fights for perhaps a small profit and for bragging rights. Any +700 fighter immediately draws my attention.

Wang Cong vs Fernades was another recently mis priced apparent squash match. I tried to bet on fernandes at +700, just before clicking Confirm the odds moved to +800. I clicked Confirm on that and then site locked up and wouldn't let me bet on this fight. Very annoyed when she got the sub in rd 2.

I didn't really understand the absurd betting odds. Obviously, he's a talented young athlete but we haven't even had a chance to see him fight a hard grappling based individual and we're gonna make him +750... wild, Barcelos is an aging athlete but his loses have been to good guys and he's a legit wrestler when he chooses to be... Maybe Talbot learns and gets better with this
Yeah those odds were insane. He's a talented young kid. Got put in his place...he'll be back stronger I'm sure.

He's young, he'll come back. A lot of fighters take these losses and come back stronger, Islam got KOed, look at him now.

Even more recently, Raul Rosas Jr. got fraud checked, but has come back to win his last 3. Learn a lot more from a loss.
I don't know the kid, but the fighters you named seem to have different mindsets and they're putting everything into MMA. Talbot from what I've observed doesn't really have that desire or hunger. He's too busy trying to learn how to pole dance. Maybe he proves me wrong though.

its funny how when he was winning, everything seemed so cool about him... he has a black hole that goes through his body? That's gnarly!
Now I see a loser with a big black spot tatted on his front and back. lame af
I liked him as a prospect but I always thought that tattoo (or tattoos) was terrible.

Finally someone brings this up!

St-Denis' fun to watch, and admittedly I was glad the UFC finally opened up their precious little cocoon that their LW top 5 has been for years to give some up-and-comer an opportunity to fight one their stars (when St-Denis fought Poirier). But that 5-fight win streak that St-Denis had managed to rack up prior to that fight wasn't exactly against top tier opponents, cardio-wise he had never been tested, and nothing in those wins indicated that St-Denis had a decent fight IQ.

I'm fine with guys being viewed as future champs and hyped up as such once they've fought some top-level competition, even if they lose but manage to look good. Or, I'll tend to get more easily hyped up about a guy that's fighting in a shallow division, like 205, for example, or HW.

But at 135 or 155? It's just a different ballgame altogether, and nobody can escape the necessity for well-roundedness in those divisions.
Trying to call future champions early in their careers has always been part of the fun of being a fight fan, for me. Even if it's wrong most of the time, it's still fun and makes you feel more invested in following them.

I think this is called fair weather fandom.

Everything about him other than his fighting skill is terrible hahhaha

the tatoo, the pole dancing, the belly shirts, the interviews where it seem like only 25% of his brain is turned on, etc

But he knows Tony Hawk, brah!

Barcelos getting disrespected in this thread. Maybe Talbot actually is that good but Raoni was one step ahead of him the whole match - dude's TD chains and ground control was immaculate.

Honestly...
Me neither...
Dude showed flaws on his wrestling game since his DWCS fight.
Last fight he was getting wrestlefucked but managed to find the KO.
For some reason, people took Barcelos as a done fighter... Probably because of his age or past results.
Anyway, i should have bet at least something at Barcelos... I even read his wikipedia page in the week of the fight only to discover he had some wrestling pedigree (his father was a freestyle wrestler that competed for the national brazilian team while Barcelos is a five time national wrestling champion).

About Benoit... Well... Dude took a career altering beating on his short notice debut against Elizeu Zaleski. After that he managed not only to win his next five, but also won those convincingly (Dude broke one of the Bonfim's brothers hype while also derailing Frevola's hype who was coming from 3 finishes in a row).
All in all, Benoit's hype was justified by his results. Match that with the fact that UFC wants to do more European events and there's pleny of reason for his hype.

Benoit shouldn’t have been in the same weight class as Elizeu either, plus the fight was rigged (I’m sure the ref had put money on St Denis) as that fight should have been stopped, instead he took a beating that will have probably scraped a few years of his career, just like the Moicano fight…. Dude is almost 10 years younger than Elizeu and looks the same age and more messed up. That’s what you get when you have a bunch of parasites managing your career.
