Payton Talbott hype train derailed as fast as it started

He's young, he'll come back. A lot of fighters take these losses and come back stronger, Islam got KOed, look at him now.

Even more recently, Raul Rosas Jr. got fraud checked, but has come back to win his last 3. Learn a lot more from a loss.

A hypothetical isn't a good base for comparison. He got caught, we don't know how the fight would have gone if he hadn't got caught, cause he did.

Anyway, there are many other examples of people bouncing back. Payton is 26, he's got 10 years left in the sport at minimum

it's not hypothetical, my point is Islam's loss showed nothing. all it showed was he could get KO'd, which is literally nothing because every human on earth has that same "weakness". Talbott got completely exposed that he can't do shit to stop the wrestling OR the BJJ, that's not some inherent weakness in humans the way getting chin checked is.

I wonder if Talbot might benefit from changing gyms. He trains at a small unknown gym in Reno which could limit his growth. Ngannou, Moreno, and others all leveled up when they switched gyms.

At minimum he needs to head south and relocate to LV.

He walked into the Octagon tonight 9-0 in his career with 8 stoppages. 5-0 as an amateur with 5 stoppages. 3 UFC fights, 3 stoppages.

Despite the set back decision loss, he's one of the best prospects in the lighter weight divisions in the sport.
Yeah I was making a hilarious joke.

What I'm saying is that we don't know what could have happened past the KO, Islam may have been exposed then. People learn with time. Payton will be back, the good thing is that shit wrestling/BJJ defence can be made to not be a weakness.

He was up against a legit vet there, Raoni is solid
That being said, Payton didn't look good at all there and this is a big gap in his game

sure, he could've been exposed, but he didn't. what you're arguing is hypothetical, what i'm arguing is what actually happened.

Eh there's many other examples of a fighter taking a loss early in their career, and learning from it. Hope that happens for Payton, he's an exciting watch

classic prospect loss. literally happens to the best of them.

Here’s hoping Raoni gets popped for PEDs and this becomes a NC lol. He definitely got a bit exposed but his composure was fantastic and I think he can still bounce back, all great fighters except Jones and Khabib have losses early in their career…is normal

he cut his hair, it was Samson all over.
Very true. When you do something different, it wrecks your momentum. Look at history...

Andrei Arlovski went back and forth looking like a playboy and lookeing like a ravaged animal. His record reflects his appearance.

Clay Guida was an exciting fighter and fan favorite 16 years ago. He cut his hair short one time...then look what happened.

Tito Ortiz used to wear black shorts with flames. He changed them to white shorts with flames and started losing.

Frank Mir is another great example. He areived with athletic ability and very skilled in jiu jitsu. Then he got in a motorcycle accident, and his record started getting rocky.

It's a tale as old as time.

It was an absurd booking to begin with. Going from guys like Saaiman, and Ghemmouri to Barcelos is one of the larger jumps in competition you’ll see.

I picked Barcelos by decision and anyone who knows anything about either fighter should have known him being a -1050 favorite was insane and this outcome isn’t all that surprising.
