Its not just me. Every time I see a clip about Pavlik or hear commentary leading up to his fights, his color is brought up everytime.You guys act like youre hearing this from me for the first time.
BTW, I didn't enjoy lacy and taylors fights because they are white.:icon_lol:

You're earlier criticism was that we only enjoyed his fights because he is white. That's a different issue from saying that his color is always brought up in the build up to one of his fights. You and I can both see that his color being noted in the lead up to one of his fights isn't a concession that the only reason one would enjoy his fights was because of his color.

It was more of a commentary on the fact that this giant fan base is going to diappear as soon as he loses badly, which I think is coming. Once he is exposed, no one is going to be talking about what a fantastic fighter he is, they are going to say we liked him because--- fill in the blanks.

The hype I hear over and over is that Pavlik is the white hope in boxing. Will he still be when he wakes up in the center of the ring trying to decide what to have for breakfast?

Look, Pavlik is far from elusive. So far he has been able to take whats given to him, but his chin is going to fail him soon. A pressure fighter with poor defense is not staying on top for long.

There are several good punchers floating around 160. Arthur Abraham?

He's not a defensice mastermind but some guys have good, long lasting chins. You cant just assume his chin is going to fail him. Abraham is a good body puncher and if he beats Miranda I would be interested in seeing that match up. I hope Abraham looks good against Miranda. If Abraham loses or the fight is close it might be hard to justify a Pavlik/Miranda fight in terms of promotion.

Actually youre wrong. I Initially turned down your bet then said OK to a sig bet and asked you to PM the sig. You never did. I will link the thread if you like.

I don't disagree with you. But, a giant fan base is different than saying "everyone".

You're playing in extremes, so it's hard to have a straight convo about this. I'm not saying he's a fantastic fighter. I think if anything people will be saying, "we liked him because he gave exciting fights". I think you're overstating his color.

Now you're saying "no one", but it should be clear that there will always be a "someone". You can't take one example of a "someone" and state sarcastically, "I thought NO ONE says that".

A reasonable conversation gets mucked up when one plays in the extremes.

Unless you spend a lot of time on Stormfront, I doubt that very much. The American national media hasn't even been covering him until now, and most people don't even know who he is. Hell, Lacy was probably more hyped before the Zag fight despite fighting lesser competition. If anything, his skin color works against him with respect to MSM coverage.

nobody knew who lacy was, and nobody outside of hardcore boxing fans and the city of youngstown really care about pavlik. pavlik is luke-warm at the moment. he will make money, and continue to be a regional attraction, but i doubt he will do wonders for the popularity of boxing in america.
