Neither champ has a very interesting #1 contender right now.

So why not? Pantoja have several tittle defenses at this point so he has earned this opportunity.

Both are greats at cardio so we might have an interesting match up right here.

This might be the first fight that Merab doesn't have a reach disadvantage

Patchy Mix was in the audience with his fiance Tatiana Suarez.

The UFC should keep the streak going of giving other champions immediate title fights, and put together Mix vs Merab.

what are the differences in length, arms? this would be a beastly fight

Don't hate it and wouldn't care of fly weight gets logged jammed.

Personally I like the idea of Merab vs pantoja or mix (if he gets signed) while Umar vs Yan for the the chance to rematch merab

I love the Pantoja fight. 'To beat small, have to think small.' (Kenny Florian)

"omg mix lost in his debut therefore he sucks LOL"

Mix is an interesting style matchup against Merab because Mix has one of the best guillotines in the sport.

Also, it bears noting that Merab started his UFC career 0-2.
Mix got outclassed by Juan. He’s always been overrated imo

Pantoja "has earned this opportunity"?
Why not Merab being the one that earned the opportunity? As you stated, Pantoja has three defenses at this point. Merab has one less defense. He can always cut weight.

Anyway, keep it as is. Last thing we need is for two divisions to be in chaos when they have talent populating it.

Mix is pretty far away from a shot now though. I think it would take at least 4-5 in a row.

The guy who just beat him will still have to take another fight and he's already got 8 in a row.

I like the fight legacy wise for both guys, and there isn't a clear guy in either division for both. However hard to realistically see how Pantoja wins. What skillset does he have to beat Merab with? It's a cool feather in Merab's cap, but not sure if its worth his time. Merab vs Volk would be interesting.
