I could see him putting it on Ilia. The last time we saw Ilia grapple, he got outworked by Bryce Mitchell. Not exactly a terrible grappler, but Paddy seems to be just as good on the ground and a hell of a lot stronger. Obviously his chin is great, but Ilia's power has probably translated fine to LW. His KO over Charles was nice, but it was more about placement.

I've been way off before. I thought O'Malley was not an elite fighter but he won the title eventually. We also live in a world where Michael Bisping became champ in the mid 2010s MW era.

O’Malley has really good stand up for an MMA fighter though. Michael Bisping did it through attrition and luck. I don’t think Paddy has any single exceptional attribute like O’Malley or the mental toughness to try as much as Bisping did. But I guess he does have the political backing to get handed favorable match ups.

I've noticed that Paddy usually posts close and around fight week for his cards - mostly I think maybe Sherdoggers rile him up and put the fight into him XD
