This is my personal picks of what I believe are the best 20 in past twenty years.

Also only one performance, per actor can be represented.

Denzel Washington - Training Day

Russell Crowe - A Beautiful Mind

Ben Kingsley - Sexy Beast

Paul Newman - Road to Perdition

Philip Seymour Hoffman - Capote

Will Smith - The Pursuit of Happyness

Javier Bardem - No Country for Old Men

Daniel Day-Lewis - There Will Be Blood

Heath Ledger - The Dark Knight

Christoph Waltz - Inglourious Basterds

Christian Bale - The Fighter

Jake Gyllenhaal - Nightcrawler

Colin Firth - The King's Speech

Matthew McConaughey - Interstellar

Robert Pattinson - The Lighthouse

Leonardo DiCaprio - Django Unchained

Tom Hanks - Captain Phillips

Willem Dafoe - The Lighthouse

Caleb Landry Jones - Get Out

Joaquin Phoenix - The Joker

Voted Denzel, Jake and Joaquin.
Training Day was awesome. Denzel said it was one of his favorite roles.
Nightcrawler was a cool movie with Jake. I really liked the premise.
A lot of people disliked The Joker because it wasn't about the traditional comic book character but Joaquin gave a phenomenal performance.

I'm no acting expert and haven't seen many of these films so I just picked my 3 favorites.

1. DDL in TWBB
2. Hans Landa
3. Heath as The Joker

Christian Bale in the fighter, Christoph Waltz in Inglorious Bastards, and Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Bale is the best out of those three though. He was a different person in that movie.

Jesus, how do you pick just 3?

Had to go with Javier Bardem for No Country, Daniel Day Lewis for There Will be Blood, and Christophe Waltz for Basterds
