I've never seen BP. I'm not a fan of superhero movies in general. The last one I saw was Logan which was about some guy that had knives in his hands. It was ok as far as I remember. I enjoyed Blackklansman quite a bit. I didn't think it was oscar worthy but judging it by the quality of other nominations I guess it is. I'm very surprised that Hereditary and Tony Collette didn't get nominations. That's absurd. She gave one of the performances of the year. Same with The Death of Stalin. That was a much better than most of the films on the list.

Black Canther was highly entertaining but lol at a best picture nom. It’s not like they needed some random explosive movie to fill in anyways, they already had green book and blackkklansmen nominated.

Are the Oscars becoming like Grammys now?

Awards being presented on who they are rather than on their actual accomplishment?

Difference is that the Grammys have always been a meaningless joke. There was never a time in which they represented music's best.
Whereas the Oscars were a prestigious award given based on a defined criteria. But that has been changed in recent years it seems.

Oscar bait has existed for decades but I think you see hollywoods increasing focus on identity politics in these nominations.

Again I hope The Favourite cleans up as its a good example of something that doesn't depend on cheap politics and rather actually gives talented actresses the chance to give interesting performances. I'm waiting for the SJW element though to decry it because a mentally ill actress should have been cast as Queen Ann and then had a stroke midway though production.
