The rest of those films werent that good. Horrible year for selections.

Sucks to see John David Washington miss out. Adam Driver, Spike Lee and the film gets nominated but he doesn't, that's fucked up.

Not really...Driver had the best performance in that movie. His character had the most to do, he was the one undercover after all.

Star is Born, black panther, blackkklansman

I didn't expect panther or klansman to get nominated to be honest.
I liked klansman but it wouldn't be in my top 8 this year, panther would be in top 15....but I missed a lot of movies.

Black panther is on the level of antman 2 & venom for me. I liked all of them but nothing special.

Side note: why wasn't aquaman nominated for anything?

Two best films I'v seen from last year would be The Favourite and You Were Never Really Here although honestly I'm more surprised the former has done so well than the latter has been ignored, I mean the academy aren't known for going for violent genre cinema however artfully its made.

This is a pretty dam uninspiring list of nominations though I'd agree even as a leftie and seems like the Oscars hitting peak pandering/politics(more of the corporate dem tokenistic kind though).

Awards being presented on who they are rather than on their actual accomplishment?


Difference is that the Grammys have always been a meaningless joke. There was never a time in which they represented music's best.
Whereas the Oscars were a prestigious award given based on a defined criteria. But that has been changed in recent years it seems.
