Actually, systemic racism against straight white males is in Canada's charter of human rights.I am sure this isn't allowed in Canada.
This would go agaisnt discrimination laws.
Did that University have Govt permission to not to allow Whites on their research positions? if not then they are violating the law.
15. (1) Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability.
(2) Subsection (1) does not preclude any law, program or activity that has as its object the amelioration of conditions of disadvantaged individuals or groups including those that are disadvantaged because of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability.
Visible minority of person
'Visible minority' refers to whether a person is a visible minority or not, as defined by the Employment Equity Act. The Employment Equity Act defines visible minorities as persons, other than Aboriginal peoples, who are non-Caucasian in race or non-white in colour

Visible minority refers to whether a person is a visible minority or not, as defined by the Employment Equity Act. The Employment Equity Act defines visible minorities as "persons, other than Aboriginal peoples, who are non-Caucasian in race or non-white in colour". The visible minority population consists mainly of the following groups: South Asian, Chinese, Black, Filipino, Arab, Latin American, Southeast Asian, West Asian, Korean and Japanese.
This isn't new or unique to this position at all, but due to the huge skew in non-straight white male population of the school is the especially egregious.
The government is actually the root cause of this discrimination, because they give monetary grants to universities in the name of 'equality'. Asians can get these grants because while they are an overwhelming majority in the university, they are a "visible minority" in all of Canada.
What's even funnier is that almost half of Waterloo University's graduate students (people who would qualify for these research positions) are actually foreign students.

With the majority of these students coming from Asian countries. So the Canadian government is actually favouring non-citizen foreign students from Asia (who racially are already a majority at the university) over straight white male students that are Canadian citizens (who are a minority) for prestigious research positions at their own top-tier universities.
