Xbox Official Xbox thread

Wouldn’t that same logic apply to Sony and Nintendo too? Why don’t they sell their games on each other’s platforms? The point is to get people to buy an Xbox or buy the games on PC. Really the point is to get people to sign up for game pass so if Sony and Nintendo don’t allow game pass on their consoles I don’t why Microsoft would or should sell their exclusives on their consoles.
Thats different though. These are not home grown Microsoft studios. And Sony and Nintendo both have a huge market share right now and they're not even in the same frame of mind of MS in trying to take over the video game world and have their fingerprints on everything.

Microsoft is thinking console/PC/mobile, you're thinking just consoles.

I guess but I dont know who's going to be playing TES6 or Starfield on mobile.

Look, for the record, I don't give a shit what MS does with their rights on the studios they own. Im probably making the switch to MS next gen anyways and it's not completely based on this topic alone. I just think it's stupid throw away money.

I think maybe somewhere down the line that's possible and they could eventually get there, but not now when you got your ass kicked by Sony this generation. If MS thinks they're going to flip the console war in one fell swoop I think they're nuts.
You need to think outside of the "console war" mindset.. Microsoft are many multitudes larger than Sony, and have the capital to go in a radically different business direction.

It's a long term play, and they admit themselves it will be a while until they reach a high profit margin..

Last 6 months, they've added 5 million subs to Gamepass so the growth is clearly accelerating..

Yeah I mean there's still a long time before we will all see how this plays out. I think right now if you're going Xbox next gen, especially if you're someone like me who's switching from Sony, you're taking a bet that in the long term that MS will finally come through on all this potential they are creating.

In terms of thinking outside console wars, I get it. I dont know shit about PC. But Sony has sold 150+ million consoles, to just say we're not selling these massively popular games to this giant audience is a weird one to me.

Satya Natella is putting a huge amount of faith into Phil Spencer..

In 2014, he questioned why Microsoft were even in the business.. lol.

"A few months later, Spencer took over as head of Xbox. Whatever jubilation he felt was short-lived; a few weeks into the job, he got a call from Satya Nadella... 'I don't actually know a whole lot about why we're in gaming,' Nadella told him... Many developers who had worked on the Xbox One felt let down by Microsoft's big vision; it was, as some told Spencer, not in line with 'the soul' of what Xbox was. 'Satya was transparent that there could be a future where gaming isn't a business that Microsoft should be in,' Spencer told me... He looked at where Xbox had failed, and how the brand could be saved — if at all. When he finally called Nadella back, it was to say this: 'If we're going to stay in the gaming space, then let's make sure we're all-in. The last thing I wanted to do was run the gaming organization here as kind of an afterthought of the company and kind of half-in, half-out. Let's go fix who we are.'

Sounds about right. Ive been a console gamer since the 80s and most of the time since they entered the business I have found basically everything Microsoft has done to be out touch. Their products, their messaging, their brand in general just does not appeal to me. But I think they're finally on the right track.

Oof news stating that Elder scrolls fitting to be an exclusive

I think the fact that these games already have a big user base makes it more likely that they’ll be able to get PlayStation and Nintendo fans to join the ecosystem one way or another. You’d have to be a really hardcore fanboy to like a game but refuse to play it because it’s on an Xbox. And while the internet seems full of these people I think in reality people are going to find a way to play them.

Most PlayStation fans say they have a gaming pc anyway so this really shouldn’t be that big of an issue for them.

When they say Xcloud on mobile aren’t they just referring to the phone or tablet being used as a screen? I mean I know you can’t use an Xbox controller with an iPhone at this point but it’s not like you have to use shitty touch controls like it’s a game made for mobile devices.

They do make controllers of some sort for mobile don’t they? Hopefully eventually they’ll make an attachment for an actual Xbox controller though.

Xcloud on mobile sounds like it’ll be good for long car rides and airplanes.

It's an app. You can use Xbox and PS controllers with the XCloud through Bluetooth.

I got no interest in playing a game like this but I think the popularity of the Switch and Mobile/Tablet games proves that many are. Or if you got a family and the TV's are being used.

That’s actually pretty badass and while I personally wouldn’t use it either I think it’s great for kids. Especially as I said on long road trips or on a plane. Great distraction.

I have a Switch and it very rarely leaves the base attached to thevTV. Never out of the house. But as my kids get older (1 and 3 right now) I’m sure that’s going to change.

Same. I have a Switch and the only game I ever played undocked was Breath of the Wild because I couldn't get enough and had to share my TV with my wife and kids. But I have zero desire to play big next gen AAA games on my phone.

Yeah I wouldn’t even bother with a AAA game on a phone (maybe a tablet) but I can see playing some Stardew Valley or something like that at night in bed.
