Xbox Official Xbox thread

Horizon taking 3 years isn't indicative of some policy though. Horizon is releasing relatively soon after the other games on the list. As in, once Sony started allowing previous exclusives on PC other games followed relatively quickly. Death Stranding didn't even take an entire year. Horizon and Death Stranding are both on Steam, so I don't think Sony being an investor in Epic has anything to do with it.

I don't expect simultaneous releases, but it's not uncommon to wait 6 months to a year for PC port anyway. Most Rockstar and Square games take about that long. I'm no longer convinced that I need to get a PS5.

after announcing these releases Sony made it clear they are committed to real exclusives. I’m not 100% sure why they did it. Maybe just to give PC gamers a taste of what Sony is offering? Maybe just to pull in a nice chunk of extra revenue without really doing much damage to their exclusive library? I’d be curious to hear their reasoning for it.

I think they only release these games to PC once earnings from said games plateau at a very low level. Meaning everybody who’s interested in it has bought it by now and weekly sales have dropped from say 100k a week to a few hundred.
So release them to PC (and mega PSN discounts) while theyre still fresh in gamer memory and see that earnings boost.

But like someone said, if you’re not buying a ps because, potentially, some exclusives might be released a few years down the line on PC ........

You weren’t really going to be buying one anyways, we’re you ?

People need to understand that there's always going to be gamers who prefer a console over getting and playing on a PC, so the argument that Xbox games that go to PC arent exclusive anymore isn't so true to them. To strictly console gamers, those games will continue to be exclusive as long as it doesn't go to Sony and Nintendo as well. Things like cross play with PC also helps keep online games more populated.

You have to be a Sony or PC fan boy to still not get it.

I don't really see the point of any of the divide. I just like to game. Every platform has it's advantages and disadvantages. I'm sticking with Xbox just because I'm kind of committed to their service and own a shit ton of digital content as I've been with them since the 360. Playstation has a handful of exclusives that I'm sure are kick ass, but It's not like there wasn't anything to play this gen on the Xbox.

The XSX / Halo Infinite memes are just killing me.
MS getting savaged out there.

<{outtahere}>

lmao, that face is hilarious

No one can deny how average the game looks. It just looks flat, really terrible lighting, like an upscaled Xbox OG gen title. I expected so much more from it, graphically.

Outside the grappling hook (weak/cheap/floaty??), the gameplay looked solid though, reminding me of Halo 1. The melee strike looked like it felt meaty.

I'm definitely more excited with what Obsidian is bringing to the table. That Outer World's DLC looked promising, and I'm genuinely excited for that Avowed title. I never played Pillars Of Eternity, but it's cool they have established world/lore that they can bring the camera down into for a 3d experience. I hope it's also 3rd person. Those armours look awesome!

Attractive females in a western RPG again... I'm sure the Bioware HR dept is reeeing already.

I got you, and agree with you. I just wanted to see more from Xbox, to push the competition. It would have taken something amazing to make me want to actually get one, but it would have been cool to have that feeling from when I was a teen and first xbox came out and I had my PS2, and I thought, damn, some of those games make me envious.

I was. I've owned every Playatation iteration except the pro, but with a full-time job and plenty of games coming out all the time the itch to get at a game at release is mostly gone.

It's a good question, but it might be as simple as leaving it up to the devs. Naughty Dog probably won't need to bother considering how well their games sell, and I'd think the same of Sony Santa Monica. I imagine for the rest there must be some point after which it makes sense to just go ahead and port a game because everyone who wants it and has a Playstation has already picked up a copy. And sure, it would make plenty of sense for Sony to hold onto its biggest games.

It would just be weird to have all these games come over and then completely turn off the tap.

Horizon is the exception and not the rule. None of the other big guns (Uncharted 4, God of War, Spiderman, TLOU2, GOT) are coming out on PC.

Console war is over.. Gabe has spoken.. wonder if Sony's close relationship with Epic Games steered him to say this.

Seems like he's only talking from a hardware perspective and not thinking of games or he just doesn't care for Sony's 1P games.

The one and only thing a person needs to understand about Gabe Newell is that his own business-- gaming-- is a secondary concern to him. First and foremost he is an open-source zealot. That is the most important thing to him, and his purpose in life. It is his great cause. It is obvious he considers this the most important endeavor of his life, and perhaps of our time.

The reason he is cheering on Microsoft, a company he has always hated, is that they've moved to a much more open-source friendly platform with the XSX. Everything they're doing lately is towards dissolving the walled garden. Everything Sony has been doing is the opposite.

That’s the difference between the market leader and the guy running last place though.

I mean it’s nice you’re breaking down the walls to your garden but you barely got anything to show and you’ve got amateurs planting petunias in there.

When you have the Queen’s Gardens, you can charge an entry fee. And only certified gardeners at work.

I’m being facetious but you get what I’m trying to say.

I have an Apple iPad. I don’t want no open source / unrestricted cross platform bs. I want great apps, great ui/ ux and reliable hardware. Most importantly, I want the best integrated package. The sum of all parts.....

Yes, obviously Microsoft didn't do this out of the goodness of their hearts. Everything they were doing when they were the market leaders was contrary to a more open and cooperative model, and more nefariously so than Sony. I still remember when Gabe nearly lost his mind when Microsoft floated the idea of funneling all software through the Microsoft Store with the launch of Windows 10. He was bouncing off the walls in the press-- full meltdown.

Also, it should be noted, Gabe isn't oblivious to his own interests. He told those anchors, "I don't have a horse in this race", but that's bullshit, because he very much wants the walled-garden model of consoles as they currently exist, famously lampooned in the brilliant TV show Silicon Valley as "the box", to fail. This would be great for Steam.

On the other hand, Gabe originally bet on Windows because he believed in open-source long term, and he was right. Windows does more gaming revenue than any other single platform, and Steam itself is the most profitable business per employee in the USA. I think he sees the era of walled gardens winding down. The PS4's full exclusives halved from the PS3's in the crucial first four years of its lifespan. I think that's still probably over a decade away, but many of the hallmark fundamentals which fortified it have eroded, and continue to erode.

Very well put.
I just thought somebody reading your, and others, previous posts might assume you’re expounding on MS corporate largesse.

And here I thought good old Gabe has been putting the finishing touches on Half Life 3 for the past 10 years....
