So it’s gonna go by the Xbox X?

Which means PCs and parts of similar specs are going to have a HUGE price drop around the time of the XSX's release, if not before it.

Ram and Sata SSD prices have already plummeted. Its the core peripheral and hardware components that havent.

So....have we officially gone past the "console" idea and come full circle to a gaming pc?
I mean that's what this is right?
A small form factor gaming pc running windows software and locked down to run only games and limited Microsoft software.

Consoles have always been specialized computers but now they are very much the same thing.

Sounds like WiiU naming confusion to me, will surely affect any casuals they want to bring back from their 360 days

Being fully backwards compatible has me intrigued. If I get one I'll probably wait for some kind of sale.

I don't think so. The WiiU's problem was that they marketed it like an add-on for the Wii, and didn't explain that it was a brand new console all that well. Nobody knew what the fuck it was. The initial marketing for that brick was just terrible, and it pretty much killed it right out of the gate.

XMas 2020 is going to be expensive. This and a new TV. Hello Costco.

I strongly doubt it.

PC vendors know that PCs aren't truly competing against Xboxes. People buy PCs for the operating system as much as the hardware advantage. Dilettantes in the Silicon Valley press can write as many headlines as they want saying this is "basically a PC", but basically, they're idiots. It's not.

It's a locked down device.

So does "Series" imply there will be a series of consoles released?

I wonder if I should buy the OG Day 1 Series X or wait for the more powerful Series X2 or w/e.

Yes. Obviously they're going to continue with the same strategy we saw this generation with the Xbox One S and Xbox One X.

I abbreviated it to the XSX (which in the context of the above if they're sensible) will one day be XSX1, XSX2, etc, in these sorts of online discussions.

Yet I almost chuckled at the potential oversight because I was tempted to abbreviate it to "XXX".

Hopefully they have games this time around. It's kind of the main purpose of a gaming console.

I'm thinking they will call it only X. Like Megaman.

I have a huge library of games since the X360 and some physical Classic titles, so it's A LOT of money down the toilet if I don't go with MS. I don't have a console right now (only my old 3DS) and don't plan to buy one, so, let's see.

They've certainly made the right moves in order to do that but will see what happens. At this point I see no reason to get an XBOX for myself. With a gaming PC and Sony console I'm set.

They're trying. Sony absolutely hit it out of the park with PS4 exclusives, though. I might switch to Sony for the first time ever if the Xbox launch lineup or future road map isn't that great.

Off topic but I figure this is as good a place as any to ask:

Can I transfer my saved game files from my 360 to my One?

I want to finish my play through of Assassin’s Creed III (that I’ve had on the go for like 6 or 7 years) but I’d rather play it on my One (that I’ve owned for two years and never played) than my 360 (which I haven’t played in four years).

For AC3... Don't bother lol.

That game was such a disappointment for me. Just something about the game play never clicked at all for me

Well I felt that way too, there’s a reason it’s taken me 7 years and counting to get through. Assassin’s Creed was one of my favourite franchises last gen, then after playing about halfway through 3 I quit

Remember that Microsoft has yet to give out exact dimensions of the Xbox SX, and these images are based off of approximations made by various users.

More detailed rumored specs:
  • 8-core, 16-thread Zen 2 CPU, up to 3.6GHz Turbo
    • 4x as powerful as Xbox One generation consoles
  • 12 TFLOP Navi GPU on RDNA architecture (Highly customized 7nm SoC from AMD)
    • 2x as powerful as Xbox One X; 9x as powerful as the Xbox One
  • GDDR6 RAM memory (16GB rumored)
  • Super-fast NVMe SSD that can also be used as VRAM
  • Supports 8K resolution (likely media playback)
  • 120FPS gaming Variable Refresh Rate (FreeSync 2.0)
  • Variable Rate Shading Raytracing confirmed with dedicated raytracing cores
  • Backward compatible with thousands of Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One games; 100% backwards compatibility with Xbox One
  • New controller with a dedicated share button
  • Compatible with Xbox One accessories
  • Conversely, Series X controllers will also be compatible with the Xbox One

3 just didn't mesh. I was ok with the story but the game play let it down.. In particular the save points that were miles apart

I largely didn’t care for the setting. I’m not American, so I didn’t find the colonial setting all that appealing compared to Renaissance Italy for the Ezio games or crusader era Middle East from the first one.

Nothing really beats Ezio.

I'm not American either but I had a bit of a interest there. Black Flag was good fun
