They gonna show any next gen titles?

"Let's say you play a campaign as an example, and then you want to focus exclusively on multiplayer. If the developers chose to support it, you can actually uninstall the campaign itself, so that you can be more in control of how you're actually using your storage, so you really get the most benefit out of the available storage that you have."

There is likely to be another showcase later this month..
That’s good, starting to feel a bit like Jurassic Park.

“Now eventually you might have next-gen games on your next-gen console, right?”

Xbox have announced numerous next gen titles (Hellblade 2, Project Mara, Avowed, Halo, State of Decay 3, The Gunk, Stalker, Everwild, Forza, The Medium etc..) we just don't have firm release dates..

If Starfield releases in 2021, and it's a xbox exclusive (which in my opinion is likely), that will be big..

The Initiative's unannounced IP is also in a playable state.

What on earth is Starfield? And why should I be excited for it?

That’s awesome, be nice to see them. There’s been next to nothing in terms of gameplay shown.

Pretty much all we’ve seen is how well old games run on it.

Yep, it's frustrating that little to no gameplay has been shown..

Many of the studios that Microsoft have acquired are working on games, that are much larger in scope than they're previously accustomed to.. I'd rather they be given the time, than be forced to release a rushed product..

Last thing MS needs to be doing is releasing rushed titles. They need to take their time and release good games this is a marathon not a sprint.

I mean it was a rather significant indicator of their current strategy when they made the decision to delay Halo Infinite, and get Joseph Staten as project lead..

Microsoft of yesteryear, would have just forced it out unfinished, in order to reach the launch deadline..

Xbox Series X Is Everywhere All Of A Sudden, Unlike PS5
When you go on my Twitter timeline right now, you see a ton of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X. People are talking about load times, AI-assisted HDR, performance increases, all that good stuff Microsoft wants in the air before launch. The reasoning is pretty simple, and it’s not because the entire conversation shifted overnight to focus exclusively on Microsoft’s console over Sony’s PS5. It’s because Microsoft has been sending people a ton of consoles, and they’re talking about them. Pretty straightforward, actually.

Sony, on the other hand, has been much more reserved...Sony had too many advantages to count last generation: price probably being chief among them, followed by not making a complete mess of their reveal. One other thing, however, didn’t hurt: at the beginning of last generation, Sony was pretty liberal with PS4 review units, and a lot of journalists defaulted to playing most multiplatform games on those consoles. A similar strategy could be even more important this time around due to the rise of streamers and other influencers, which hold tremendous sway over their audience’s buying choices.
In the world of tech it has historically been a bad sign when a company hasn't been eager to freely distribute a product prior to a launch (similar to studios shielding a movie from screenings for critics).

Meanwhile, finally looks like we got an idea of OS sizes.
PS5 useable storage space could be problematic, while Xbox Series X offers neat workaround
The Sony PS5 versus Xbox Series X debate continues with attention turning to the available storage of the two systems. Although the PS5 ships with an 825 GB SSD, an unconfirmed report over the weekend suggests that it might only allow for 664 GB of usable storage...This compares poorly with the Xbox Series X which offers a 1TB SSD with 802 GB of usable storage.
Xbox = 198GB
PS5 = 161GB

Microsoft also just announced the new the optional feature for developers to allow gamers to uninstall the parts of a game he doesn't play to free up storage.

More or less concerning than showing no gameplay footage?

You know Madmick brings up an interesting point.... just what is Sony trying to hide? Surely they would invite as many comparisons to the competitors as possible if they had the superior product. It’s almost like they want to keep their install base in the dark until after they’ve already pre ordered. For some reason or reasons. Hmmm. The skeptical side of me wants to point out the obvious but instead I think we should just chalk this up to Sony executives lack of understanding of social media and marketing in the modern day.

As most PC enthusiasts expected. Turns out when the SSD isn't a bottleneck that faster RAM and a faster CPU become the limiting factor. In fact, judging by the overall OS sizes, it may be (can't be certain) that the Xbox is loading a greater amount of data as part of its bootup processes.

It's reasonable to expect this will hold true for game load times, too.

<Fedor23>

I can get from main menu to in-game in a couple of seconds on pretty much all games on my PC.

It's still better than Sony showing nothing at all, but hyping up these loading times is the most boring next-gen advertising I've ever seen.

I don’t get it. Everybody knows the PS5 has a smaller drive than the XSX. The margins for the OS are the same. Sony's is actually 37GB better (smaller). That means that difference, which we initially thought was about 175GB in Microsoft’s favour, is now only 141GB.
Sony's whittled back about 20% of its disadvantage in size.

Yay ???

Also, that new feature is a nothingburger. If it’s only possible by developers then CoD MW (2019) has already been doing that on the last gens. At least for the PlayStations.

Within no time at all these 12 seconds are going to feel like an eternity and we’ll be longing for instantaneous loading.

Yes, Sony has a more streamlined OS. That gains back a bit of the storage space deficit for games.

The reason this is a negative for Sony is because while it reduced its deficit, it did not meaningfully reduce it's proportional disadvantage in storage (went from 82.5% to 82.7%) while that overall storage available to the user shrunk considerably, and as previous reports have revealed, game sizes are larger than ever. To put this into perspective, users have already complained about the small storage of the PS4, which is why so many bought external storage drives for their games, and expandable storage just became roughly 6x as expensive this generation.

The 1TB versions of the PS4 had already become the most popular by 2016. The 1TB PS4 had 862GB available to the user, and yet users still felt a squeeze with this. The PS4 500GB at launch had 407GB available to the user. The PS5 effectively falls right between them. It's more like a 750GB PS4 with bigger games.

So the squeeze is now amplified.
