At the NSAC meeting yesterday, Alex Chambers was on the agenda to get a Nevada license (over 35), and when asked why, she said it was for TUF.

Very interesting. You don't need a license for exhibition format of TUF ^) Change is coming.

So wait, the upcoming TUF fights won't be exhibitions?

I have been hoping TUF 20 would be different then previous TUFs. Longer with real fights. I have some doubts it will be all that I would want of it. Terrible to have to be in the House that long if this is the case. (I haven't heard about the filming time being longer from any sources.)

You'd think Chambers would know that TUF is exhibition but maybe she thinks she needs to get a license? Just thinking in terms of Chambers being miss-informed, not saying she is misinformed.

((For people not familiar with Alex Chambers, she is Australian.) That was annoying. Knew it when I posted it but didn't fix it right away.)

Looks like The Night-Queen's fight has been postponed. (Axed from the current card it was listed under.)

Mizuki Inoue Comments from Press Conference

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

The Following is from the Deep Jewels Press Conference:

I am Hakushinkai's Mizuki. Last time, I didn't act as a professional so to the officials and the fans, the trouble I have caused you is inexcusable. Even during those circumstances my fans swung my towels in the air, the officials who gave me various considerations, my seniors who taught me to fight, I have thought about all of you and how I acted is extremely regrettable and pathetic, that is how I feel. From now on, I will face this in from of me, I will do what I can do, I'm not going to decrease the value of the fight, I'm going to regulate my body so it is perfect and I'm going to go into this fight and throw down the gauntlet.

Yep, that's the pic I was thinking about.

Ouch.

Agreed.

Thanks Thirdpres. This and the multi round slugfest against the much bigger Julie Kitchen are the things that make me roll my eyes when people say Miriam was losing because she had been given a bloody nose in her last fight.

You're welcome. Thanks.

Nakamoto is definitely tough. Looking forward to seeing her back in action.

Valerie Letourneau had no orbital fracture at UFC 174
By Fabiola Nishi on June 18, 2014

Valerie-UFC-174-1.jpg

Surprisingly, the fighter Valerie Letourneau did not break any orbital bone on the last Saturday night at UFC 174 in Vancouver, Canada.

Valerie Letourneau defeated Elizabeth Phillips by split decision, and after fighting her face was very swollen, especially in the left eye. After the fight, the fighter itself thought it had broken orbital bone, but in an interview with MMA Fighting yesterday, she said that she did not break any bones in the face.

"Good news. Nothing broken, just very swollen. " The Canadian received a suspension of 180 days with 30 days no contact, but after the good news, the suspension may decrease.

Yeah. I saw that a while ago. 8(

I know the subject has been brought up in an earlier version of this thread, can't quite remember if that interview was actually posted or not.

Agreed. I've been looking for that fight. I have found many bits and pieces of fights recently but not the whole fights. Last group I saw was for Tamikka Brents' last fight again Bobbi-Jo in Canada. A pre-fight chat, the led up to the fight until they get close to touching gloves before smack down, and then the immediate post-fight celebration where Brents holds Bobbi-Jo's arm in the air.

(Yay!)

in before HNNNNNNGGGGGGGG

That news is gaining momentum.

Potentially interesting fight here: Miesha Tate vs. Rin Nakai in the works for UFC Fight Night Japan on Sept. 20, per @arielhelwani.

- it will be interesting to see where this goes.

Fight between Miesha Tate, debuting Rin Nakai targeted for UFC Japan event

Miesha Tate's verbal barbs against the likes of Sarah Kaufman and Cat Zingano might just be a smoke screen.

The former Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion's next fight could come against someone who is not currently signed by the UFC -- and it's not Gina Carano. UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani is reporting that a bout between Tate and undefeated Japanese women's MMA star Rin Nakai is in the works for the UFC's Sept. 20 show in Japan.

Hahahaha...I made that joke before I saw that photo, actually, but it looks like she did dislocate/hyper extend her opponent`s elbow (Yay!)

I cannot view the first Celine interview (NOT AVAILABLE IN YOUR COUNTRY), but I watched the second one. Very interesting. Japan allows foreign nationals with Japanese ancestry to come to Japan and work - they have a much easier time getting working visas and such. I assumed this was the case with Celine. That, and she wanted to be a fighter, so Japan is a much better place to start than Norway (for that career). But, after the Numata fight, I heard she wasn`t on (the national) health insurance and couldn`t pay for the surgery to reset her orbital bone. I`ve lived in Japan for almost 18 years and I`ve worked for three different companies, and I`ve been on national health insurance for all but three of those years. So, I was surprised at Celine`s predicament; if I can have access to that insurance, why couldn`t she. Somebody had to sponsor her visa - I`m assuming (or assumed) Jewels - in which case she should have had access to that insurance. It`s possible her visa was sponsored by a person instead (like a higher-up in Jewels) and they told her she couldn`t have access to that insurance (since it`s kind of a pain in the ass for employers to set that up). Now that I hear about her other troubles, her story (in Japan) seems kind of sadder in a way. It seems like she came to Japan and had a lot of hardships...only to get treated better in Korea and (presumably, now) in the U.S. Well, she`s made me into a fan. I hope she keeps fighting and kicking ass wherever she fights (Yay!)

that armbar does look pretty gnarly!

Holy crap! Rin in the UFC?!?!?! My dream match of Dudieva vs. Rin almost happened! I guess it could still happen. But what about Meisha as a first opponent? It`s a strange match-making decision all the way around, right? What does Meisha get from a win in this match? Nowhere closer to the title, right? I thought Tate wanted a top 5 fighter not named Kaufman, or Gina Carano. And, for Rin...if she wins...she`s leapfrogged up near the top for title shot. Is this the UFC`s plan, I wonder? To create a new prospective opponent for Ronda? On the heavies they are all claiming Meisha will destroy Rin...but Meisha is almost the perfect opponent for Rin, I think. She won`t have to worry about getting her ears boxed off by a taller fighter with greater reach...AND Meisha might save Rin the effort of having to take her down by simply charging at Rin. And if Rin can over-power Sarah D`Alelio on the ground, she can handle Meisha. I could see Rin by kimura in round two (Yay!).

Anyone else have some thoughts on this?

I think that this is a fight the UFC wants, not so much what Miesha Tate wants. I believe Tate would still prefer her previous three choices of opponents: Carano, Zingano, or Kaufman.

Although I haven't seen Tate give an opinion about this matchup yet, as far as I know.*

Tate is better in top control, she won't want to be on the bottom against Nakai. Tate might look to trade punches with Nakai as Nakai's standup is pretty bad, while Tate's isn't good either she is making improvements and there won't be referees saving Nakai (hopefully) this time around. Tate's punches actually have some power behind them now.

I'm also curious if Tate's efforts to learn to deal with Judo will help her out against Nakai. (I want to see Cindy Dandois at bantamweight.)

Nakai has a legitimate shot at defeating Tate though, she will want to put Tate on her back.

A decent matchup.

--
* I'm curious if she will press for her previously preferred matchups or if she will be happy with a Nakai matchup. A win over Nakai while not doing much divisionally to advance Tate is already higher up then she should be (in my opinion) it is a high profile fight in terms of the attention Nakai will get in comparison to other debuting bantamweights will likely get.

The UFC hasn't been making divisionally sound matchups per se anyways, nor are some of the matchups they have been circulating make much sense either.

I found myself looking for some old information on Rin Nakai and found that video with Celine Haga embedded:
