Official Women's MMA Discussion Thread #9

Not open for further replies.
I hope this means more incoming prospects, 135 needs more fights like that. Get some lower tier/new fighters a bit of momentum. I hope they pick up Valentina Shevchenko & Pannie Kianzad soon. I want to see Shizuka Sugiyama fight in the US too. Her kickboxing looks kind of questionable, but she messes people up lol.

Paulina Granados and Jenny Lious have caught my interests

Tessa Simpson vs. Paulina Granados

In case you missed it. It is a good fight.

I put up a link to Jenny Liou's fight with Jillian Lybarger the other day. I haven't found it on YouTube so I can't easily post it here but I will find the link again and post it here.

Jenny Liou vs. Jillian Lybarger

(Fight starts about 13 minutes in, and be prepared for Mike Beltran's braided beard.)

@Thirdpres. I think I can safely speak for everyone on this thread when I say we are all very appreciative of your contributions, Thirdpres. It`s easy to misinterpret nuance just reading words in a thread, but everything can be straightened out. As I learned (when I started posting in the WMMA thread), everyone (except one ignored person) who posts here is here because they love the sport and love talking about it. The conversations can turn into debates (as I learned when I debated SevarianB about a possible Hamasaki vs. Waterson rumor:icon_lol:), but in the end, everyone here is civil and "on the same team".

@leto1776 I was also really impressed by Liou. There is a clip a few pages back where she literally starts a grappling exchange on the mat and turns it into an armbar in like seconds. Impressive. Her interview was also entertaining; sounds like she really likes to fight. Due to her limited record, I think it`ll be a while before we see her in the UFC, but I hope Invicta picks her up and gives her some fights.

Jarl

P.S. @Thirpress. Thanks for the link to Liou-Lybarger!

I saw this on Liou's twitter:

"Yeah that's Dana White. And yes, I've got a couple hundred dollar bills stuffed in my bra."

There is no debate. Waterson is the GOAT and as soon as people accept that, they will find peace. :icon_chee

Is tomorrow the last day of tryouts? I ask because Julie Kedzie said she was leaving Vegas tomorrow. I assume she won't leave until she's seen who doesn't get in, so Invicta can start making offers.

@SevarianB: Hahahah..well, it`s a little bit easier to make that claim now that Jessica is back at 115. :icon_chee But seriously, Michelle showed me a lot in the Penne fight. I won`t bet against her so easily next time.

Nice pic of Jenny Liou. Looks like she put on a submission clinic as well. I wonder if she kept the money there in such a visible place just to intimidate other fighters?

Boy there is a world of difference between the DeRandamie-Dudieva discussion here and the same thread on the heavies...:icon_lol:...lots of children posting over there! I give up.

Agreed. The UFC needs to start picking up real bantamweights who can give those they already have a decent fight and start the process of working up or out of the UFC.

Swede Pannie Kianzad* (4-0-0) has a fight coming up against Italy's Annalisa Bucci (6-2-0) at Superior Challenge 10 on the 3rd of next month, this coming weekend in fact. Fight is supposed to happen at 145lbs.

*Iranian parents for people interested. It came up in a topic recently.

Bucci is actually set to fight another tough 145er later next month.

5-23 145 Maria Hougaard (5-4-0) Dk vs. Annalisa Bucci (6-2-0) IT at EuMMA 9

Agreed. I guess she just didn't have any place to put the money at first. I suspect that was after the rolling she was given the money and a handshake by White.

Urgh. I'd been hoping that giving a few examples of her fights, wins, losses, etc., might give people something useful to discuss.

There is the Princess of Pain 60kg Tournament this weekend too, in Australia.

5-3 Princess of Pain

60kg RR - Desiree Ann Maaka (0-0-0) AU, Kate Da Silva (5-1-0) NZ, Charlene Watt (0-0-0) AU
Princess of Pain – New Zealand Rd. robin bantamweight tournament
Desiree Ann Maaka vs. Kate Da Silva (135)
Kate Da Silva vs. Charlene Watt (135)
Charlene Watt vs. Desiree Ann Maaka (135)

55kg - Ammy flyweight tournament - Hera Tamati, Tairi Ford, Serina Cole, Ursula Nicole Marshall-Steele

There have been a number of Invicta fighters taking fights this past month and more will be happening next month.

5-8 115 Joanna Jedrzejczyk (4-0-0) PL vs. Karla Benitez (11-6-0, 1NC) ES at Arena MMA

5-10 at Circuito Talent de MMA 9
125 Jennifer Maia (7-3-1) BR vs. Mariana Morais (4-0-0) BR
135 Luciana Pereira (4-3-0) BR vs. Deise Lee Rocha (5-4-0) BR
125 Bianca Daimoni (3-1-0) BR vs. Yelka Torres (1-1-0) PE
(Should be some decent matchups on this card.)

5-11 135 Sarah D'Alelio (7-5-0) US vs. Rin Nakai (15-0-1) JP at Pancrase 258

5-16 Intense Cage Fighting 13:

There are two other women's fights on this card including:

115 Amy Cadwell-Montenegro (3-0-0) US vs. Rosa Acevedo (1-1-0) US assuming Montenegro doesn't make TUF 20 of course. And 115 Katie Howard (1-1-0) US vs. Robin Woods (0-0-0) US (From the looks of things Howard will be fighting several times at different weight classes, Howard dropped her fight against Glena Avila in a tight SD.*)

5-17 115 Karolina Kowalkiewicz (4-0-0) PL vs. Jasminka Cive (5-1-0) AT at KSW 27

5-17 Lappeenranta Fight Night 10

Just saw a tweet from Robert Sargent of mmarising about MMA's current public enemy #1 Ali Abdel-Aziz. He doesn't think much of Mr. Aziz and says he has been trying to poach contracted fighters from other promotions for months. He mentions that Aziz has repeatedly contacted Cyborg and has been rebuffed each time. Cyborg is contracted to Invicta which Aziz doesn't seem to care about. He says there are others.

Makes me wonder if WSOF has been trying to poach other Invicta talent without going through Shannon Knapp. I imagine that will stop if the Invicta and Fight Pass rumors are true.

Could be. I know he has been bothering Cyborg and talking about setting up a super fight between Cyborg and Holly Holm this past month.

I saw this a little while ago now but I figure people might be interested in seeing it anyways. It is an okay fight but nothing especially interesting. I'm posting this in part due to Howard having two other fights scheduled over the next several weeks and her having a semi-decent ammy record (3-3).

Glena Avila (3-2-0) US vs. Katie Howard (1-1-0) US

Part 1

Part 2

I saw this earlier today but got myself sucked into other activities.

P.S. @Thirpress. Thanks for the link to Liou-Lybarger!

100% agree, Jarl. Thirdpres is not only informative, but he is thoughtful and genuinely gives of his time and considerable knowledge. I have learned alot from his postings. If you have an honest question, he will answer it honestly.

I consider him a great voice to this thread and he was missed when he left for a while because of work, as many noticed his absence, it is a testament to his contribution and reputation in Sherdog.

I also liked the Liou fight! I'm most looking forward to the Karolina Kowalkiewicz vs. Jasminka Cive fight and the Shizuka Sugiyama vs. Takayo Hashi fight at Deep Jewels 4 (May 18th), even though I am prepared for hijinx ala Inoue robbery from last time.

P.S. -- I know it was a quick fight (only a minute), but does anyone know where I can find the Shizuka Sugiyama vs Mizuho Sato fight from Deep Jewels 3?

I'm glad you're enjoying the fights, etc. Good stuff. 8)

Two really great fights there, good stuff

Very impressed by Jenny's work from her back in that fight, also impressed by her super quick armbar in the tryouts

Really exciting to see more and more women becoming more and more skilled

Godd times ahead methinks

It is pretty clear the people who put together that article didn't know much about the UFC or MMA but it is still a good read for people interested in Liou. I had to fix their comment on Strawweight being at 125lbs.

I hope you two actually do understand that that information is a copy and paste from the article, not my own thoughts, knowledge, or comment on the subject.

These two comments seem to be to be passive aggressive and have a prerogative quality to them aimed at me.

If that is what you intend that is your business but expect to be blocked by me as a result.

Just noticed this. Please don't take offence ThirdPres. I was simply pointing out an error in the article.

I wish the TUF fighters would just pose with each other and not White as I am getting enough shots of him to last me a lifetime. But I guess he is famous and a potential boss.

You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar!

tumblr_mnj888Jab71s6z99jo1_500.gif

Haha.

Thanks.

I ended up staying up watching it. I'd seen it before and a few other fights mixed up here and there but it was good to see it a better time of night while making a few extra posts in the Germain de Randamie vs. Milana Dudieva thread.

Nice to see Katja back in action. But it's sad that so many Invicta fighters have to fight outside of the organization right now. At least they have the ability to do so. The fighters must be getting as impatient as we are, since it's hitting their wallet.

Yeah. On one level I would like to see these fighters getting fights and fighting each other in Invicta but given Invicta's need to find a good and reliable method to monetize their product I don't mind that these fights are taking place elsewhere for now.
