Official Women's Division Discussion #25

Bec was just sticking up for her girl Rose, remember that Bec and Rose were fellow Skrapettes on TUF 20.

She still needs to STFU. You can stick up for someone and act like a professional and/or an adult. See Rose's comments about setting an example. Apparently they were wasted on Bec, but then many things appear to be.

Doesn't make her statement any less stupid and coming from the gutters. But then again, Bec is of the sort who revels in wallowing in her own filth in the gutters, so I don't think she minds if we judge her idiotical statements.

She also appears to have forgotten that Namajunas panic-tapped to a RNC that wasn't even in place. That said, she's since, it seems, turned a corner. I look forward to seeing how Rose fares in defending her title (but not as much as I look forward to seeing Rawlings get her ass whooped at FLW.)

Before this fight she was 1-1 in her last two. Anyone can beat any other single fighter. A lot harder to stay on top.
That's why I said "if" her striking really has improved that much. Obviously this fight isn't definitive proof that it has, but if it has she is going to be extremely tough to beat.

That loss was the loss to Kowalkiewicz.

When Pat Barry was pointing out to Ariel Helwani the various ways he had negatively impacted Rose's fight career with his substance abuse problems, he pointed out that he had been (correctly, he said) banned from her fight-camp for the fight with Kowalkiewicz, but if he had had his shit together and been there, he would have been coaching Rose in the very aspect of the fight where she had had her problems with Karolina because that was his area of training responsibility as one of her coaches. So he blames himself and his substance-abuse-related absence (and the stresses he had burdened her with at that time), for her loss in that fight.

I still feel like Rose is going to snap at some point... I've always liked her, but I still think at some point, shit is gonna get weird. I guess we'll see.

I am excited to see Joanna vs Rose 2. I just hope Joanna has not lost her chin. In recent fights she has been getting rocked pretty consistently by things that should not be rocking her. She got flash knocked down by a jab from Claudia. She got rocked by Karolina. I am a fan of Karolina but we all know she has no power in her punches. It would suck if all those low pay Muay Thai fights are starting to catch up with her now that she's making millions.

Joanna has been my favorite fighter for awhile, and ^this is kind of what I've been wondering to myself. Joanna never took damage like this, and she's fought some solid 126-138lbs punchers before coming to UFC. 10+ years of rugged fights, a lot of one week muay thai tournaments. Her style was very dutch before MMA also, so I would assume she was probably sparring really hard coming up. Miles have to catch up at some point.

If we are seeing her physical decline, I think she'll be able to mask it for awhile based on pure skill like Anderson/Aldo.

I've had a number of thoughts about Joanna Jedrzejczyk, her health, and her fight with Rose Namajunas.

I've commented before that it might just be a matter of time before the weight cuts to 115lbs would have a health impact on her and her ability to fight well. I can't be sure if her getting dropped in this last fight is a symptom of these prolonged weight cuts but it wouldn't surprise me. I know she has made an effort at trying to be healthier during weight cuts but there is a limit on what you can do.

I didn't post too much about her, then, upcoming fight with Namajunas but I felt it would be a good fight and that Namajunas had a legit shot at winning. I didn't have a strong feeling that it would end up the way it did but it had occurred to me that it was possible. (I remember being tempted to write about this stuff a few times ten or so days ago.)

I did figure Jedrzejczyk would attempt to clinch up sooner after the first minute of the fight and her not landing many blows on Namajunas. Getting dropped. She should have changed her strategy up at that point. Easy to comment from behind my keyboard though.

Jedrzejczyk is used to imposing her fight and knowing what kinds of attacks are coming her way. Forward moving opponents or people who can't stand and bang with her. Namajunas is a different kind of fighter and when it was clear her normal operating procedure wasn't working she should have made adjustments.

If they fight again Jedrzejczyk will likely look to closet he distance and clinch. Wear Namajunas out and not allow her to control the distance and pace of the fight.

A pic to remind people of the repeated kinds of weight cuts she has put herself through to fight in the UFC's Strawweight Division.

Fact is, whatever excuses she has, she was 1-1 in 18 months, and only got a shit because she was the highest ranked girl Joanna hadn't already beaten previously. Her lone win in that time was against the over ranked Waterson.

Excuses don't change truths.

Thankfully GKO put this fight up today. I was looking for it along with a few others yesterday.

I just read Jessy-Jessy is stepping in for Calderwood vs. Bec. Congrats to Jessy Rose Clark.

And another Invicta card gets bitten in the butt by the UFC. Porto will get a decent opponent as a replacement I would expect though.

I see that Heather Jo Clark has been released by the UFC. She is looking at either Invicta or Bellator as her next stops for fighting. Or anywhere else that makes sense.

1-2 with one of those losses to a top five fighter, and the other in Mexico City to a girl they really want to push.

Meanwhile, Bec is still around, as is Jessica Eye. SMDH.

Yep. Complete crap in my opinion.

Best wishes for Lee too. Swift recovery.

It was only a matter of time. I think this is the first shot I have seen officially but there might be others out there.

Calderwood :( Lee :( Clark :(

I knew my good mood from Rose dethroning JJ would not last...

But good for Jessy Jess. Hopefully she kicks Bec's arse.

FFS I was finally looking forward to Bec and Jojo getting it on. Jessy Jess is not that good so I expect Bec to win.
