So when jack gave that test of a term's meaning and you said "I could agree with that", you weren't actually agreeing?

My point was the term really doesn't have a clear definition to it which is actually the reason Jack's basis of whoever calls themselves it likely is that works. It furthers my point the term alt right doesnt' have a real backbone to it cause it's just an opt in or opt out term regardless of any actual beliefs/views. So yes, I agree with him on that part with the context that it shows how poor the term is, which I think we both came to agree on with him thinking the leftist, etc terms are even worse.

I inferred you mentally applied it to other terms and was curious as to the answer to my initial question.

I originally applied it to the term "leftist" which I didn't get into a talk about the media about like I did with "alt right". I compared them as words that are being used to signal to a specific group off the bat a negative context to whatever person or group it gets applied to rather than going into a topic trying to make a determination for yourself who the person is aligning with on the specific topic. The issue we ran into was some actually do call themselves alt right which is something we tabled off in the comparison.

I don't think I still addressed what you are asking me. What is another example of what I should be addressing? The example of alt right was the negative aspect which gets applied to people who don't want it. I'm know there are articles/opinion shows that apply the term leftist to people/ groups who also would not agree with being that necessarily. Is that what you are asking?

There are terms that a being used just to begin a story with a negative pretext to whoever is featured in it. Those terms to me are alt right and leftist. There are others I might not have off the top of my head but have the same element to them where you can go to the article and it felt like the entire purpose was just to say the person/groups name and that term before it cause nothing actually develops in the article thats really news worthy. I saw it happen a ton with alt right the past year. Leftist is a much older term that I see talk radio guys throw around a lot.
