Yep. People can be very misleading with word choice. As it pertains to the media, news sources should be certified in order to advertise as "news" and those reporting it should be licensed. Everyone else can say whatever the fuck they want. As it pertains to people, that's just something we need to work around. Otherwise we'd be Vulcans. And Star Trek showed why that's not much fun.
It's hard to separate the depth of meaning (connotation, emotional perspective, etc.) out of language such that everything can be stated in objectively neutral terms. I personally use the labels mostly just to move the general idea along and occasionally because I feel like getting a rise out of somebody.
