This is cool but what ultimately stole the show for me was someone shortly after remarking the supercomputer still couldn't run Crysis. <Lmaoo>

In 2010, the United States Air Force created the world's 33rd-fastest computer inside its own Air Force Research Laboratory, using 1,760 Sony PlayStation 3 consoles.

They called it the "Condor Cluster," and it was the Department of Defense's fastest computer.

The USAF put the computer in Rome, New York, near Syracuse, and intended to use the computer for radar enhancement, pattern recognition, satellite imagery processing and artificial intelligence research for current and future Air Force projects and operations.

Because a PlayStation cost $300 at the time, together, the PlayStations formed the core of the computer for a cost of roughly $1 million, 10% of the price of a conventional supercomputer.

The result was a 500 TeraFLOPS Heterogeneous Cluster powered by PS3s but connected to subcluster heads of dual-quad Xeons with multiple GPGPUs (general-purpose graphics processing units). The video-game consoles consumed 90% less energy than any alternative.

I remember when they made that made that daisy-chained PS3 “supercomputer”. That was when the PS3’s Cell processor was still something that was being lauded, as opposed to not much later when the Cell processor started being considered a liability due to the difficulty to program for, leading to its abandonment by Sony when it was time to develop the PS4.

There was also a Toshiba laptop that came out that had the Cell in

Documentary inbound for the making of TLOU 2 like the original as part of the remaster and on YT

Just downloaded both Mega Man 11 and Prodeus from Extra/Prem offerings.

Excited to check out latter because combat looks solid but I’m unsure if the map design is going to be like Boltgun (Warhammer 40K) and drag everything down a peg.

Still been on a casual gaming kick lately but I cannot wait for TLOU Part 2 on Friday. I haven’t done a full play through since release because I always assumed it would hit the PS5, just took a bit longer than expected.

Roguelite mode looks amazingly fun.

Yea I haven't done a full playthrough since release either. I just beat part 1 last month so this came out at a good time. Putting everything on hold until Rebirth though. Just casually playing games hopping around here and there.

Sadly I'll be skipping TLOU II upgrade. It just releases at a really bad time for me. Had it released a month earlier I would have been all over it. The problem with the release is that it coincides with the games that I'll be playing for the rest of 2024 starting with Prince of Persia The Lost Crown. Then from there I already preordered Granblue Fantasy and Rebirth. That will take me until end of April early May most likely and then I will have Ultros and Rise of the Ronin to play and by that time I'm sure they'll announce even more stuff like Stellar Blade and in August is Wukong. So yeah..... my 2024 is already fully booked.

For those with a Steam Deck, how well does it play PS games via PS Remote app? My work travel will probably increase this year so I want to have something to do while board in the hotel room.

Very well. It takes a bit to setup and you might have to configure your ports on your firewall but that's it. The only thing that kind of sucks is (outside your network) you have to run the remote play app on your phone to get the PS on. Then you can connect with the Steam Deck.

I'd say just get a portal but with the websites these hotels setup it can be a PIA to get it working outside your network.

Yea, I've heard that Portal has been giving people issues connecting while in a hotel which is why I looked into the deck. If it runs smoothly like you say, I can spring the extra $200 or so.

Yea it runs great at my job. I was even on a weak 2.5ghz network and it was still working great.

That's really good to hear. I'm betting it has better connection capabilities? I was trying to use my iPhone 13 Pro while I was at a hospital a a week back and it was terrible and basically unplayable for me. It was a MV as well so nothing too taxing to stream if that matter.

You might want to check your PS5 then. The main thing I've noticed about remote play in general (PC or console) is that the PC or console needs a good connection. Ethernet is the best if not that then 5ghz wifi. I would do your best to make sure your PS5 has a wired connection. If your iphone is having issues there's a high chance you'll have the same issue with Steam Deck.

I haven't seen anyone mention this yet but what are you all predicting from Sony this year? It could be anything game or news related.

Here are some of mine.

1. Stellar Blade releases but scores lower than people were expecting. Game ends up being a huge success anyway which leads to Sony purchasing this studio. I'm thinking it will be this year's Lies of P, slightly underrated in the reviews but loved by gamers.

2. Sony will unfortunately not have a first party game nominated for Game of the Year. I believe that hasn't happened in 10 years or so.

3. A PS5/PSVR2 AstroBot game gets announced for 2025 at a PS showcase during the first half of this year.

4. I predict a second studio will join Sony and that will be Arrowhead studio. Helldivers II gets positive reviews and we all know Sony wants someone that can make good live service games.

5. Bend Studio's new IP gets revealed at a showcase this year. Just seems ready to happen based on the "we're cooking" comment on Twitter.

6. Last prediction although I'm slightly less confident about this one but I think there's a chance that one of them or all of them could announce new IP. Whether we actually get gameplay footage or not is questionable. Those studios are Bluepoint, Naughty Dog, and Santa Monica. The latter is least likely but we heard rumors of God of War spinoff and a sci-fi game in the works.
