It’s such a strange time to announce it imo, where as I will always stand by that day 1 exclusives on GP is only really worth it if they’re good.

Starfield is imminent and if it’s a banger this looks like a dumb decision.
The internet isn’t real life though and these suits understand this. Look at the drama surrounding Red Dead port. Was crucified online and then it made the charts in the next week . Most people just aren’t that invested in the console wars.

Starfield is one game. And on a gaming service that has had content drought for literal years. To compete with Sony who is projected to comfortably remain market leader through 2025, M/s would have to release quadruple-A banger after banger like Sony has for consecutive years – and have each or many of those bangers too be day ones if Game Pass is to effectively siphon players of other platforms.

There's already content trending on Starfield not delivering where Howard and Co said it would despite 30 FPS cap to make those things run on Series X | S. M/s hasn't bought anyone that can compete with Sony technically or in good faith argumentation, has yet to realise anything on the level under their leadership and investment.

Look at R&C: A Rift Apart or Forbidden West alone for seamless environmental/interplanetary traversal w/ craft takeoff/landing plus cutting-edge facial animations, then how it works in Starfield with loading screens, hard geometric landmark/asset boundaries, and chonk facial animations. M/s might be a threat to Sony one day but that day isn't today nor will it be 1 Sep when game launches. The Xbox playerbase deserves a good game at this point, FWIW, so I hope it's fun.

M/s also recently modified and upped their sub pricing, iirc, but I don't follow that too closely, TBH. Seems like an industry thing if talking (tone-deaf or otherwise) timing, IMO.

Anybody know a good back button attachment for the ps5 controller?

edge is too expensive and the extreme rate or whatever it's called is complicated to install.

My only beef with this is the way the announcement was done. Bad news should always accompany good news. They could have had a showcase and listed upcoming games on the service. Announcing Helldivers 2 as a day one PS Plus game would have made it a lot easier for everyone to swallow . I’ll most likely stay on board as I’m enjoying the indie release on Extra as of late. Humanity was awesome, enjoyed some time in Rogue Legacy 2, still wanting to play Moving Out 2 with the wife and so far Sea of Stars seems great. Once again I find myself at odds with the online community. It just seems like everyone is so damn angry about everything. Maybe I’m a shill or maybe it’s the fact that I remember my parents spending 60 to 80 dollars on a new game back in the 90s that lasted one to two hours. Even with the increase I think it could still be worthwhile depending on whether they continue to support it with some highly anticipated indies and live service games. Hell at worst I’m fine with all of these subs dying off to be completely honest. GamePass included, just go back to the traditional way.

This is the biggest thing people don't really care. Most people just want to come home play games for an hour or two and that's it.

Good post and agree. Multiple developer houses and publishers have spoken out on the subscription model dangers to game quality and innovation. On price hike news, I’m going to be downgrading possibly from Premium next year to Extra. The Game Trials and Cloud streaming perks haven’t been as impactful as I’d thought. Extra has been great though; I’ve played hundreds of euro of games since tier launch and gotten manyfold my money’s worth.

Goddamn, thankful I got my sub into 2025 before all this. Probably won’t come back to premium at that rate.

Ya, you posted those deals a few years back that I believe Sony regretted. Unfortunately mine expires sometime next year. Like @Valhoven, I’ll be downgrading my sub. The premium just isn’t worth it for me. And to be honest, the only thing that is worth it is the PS+ games (sometimes) and the random day 1 releases.

Yeah, for me, PS+ Essential as well as Extra pay for themselves if I (we) get, say, even a handful of games all year that I can personally sink real hours into. So far, that has been the case so it's shown a good ROI to be an Essential and/or Extra member.

I remember installing Back 4 Blood and Outriders when they'd landed on the service and had a blast for weeks on end with both; just some examples of wins there with subscribing. Zero regrets to date.

I like what Zaz says too though, that the traditional no-service publisher to consumer way we used to (and still do in part at least on PS) acquire games is still a positive thing for many. Seeing 2023 industry reports on greater subscription fatigue has me assume that this is the mind of many players and not just some. I'm not really sure the Netflix-like future of gaming touted by so many in past years is going to be the way the industry goes if players ultimately don't want that. As gamers, we have to speak up with our wallets though and not just sub or buy into the latest golden poo flung our way. I think we're an easy mark or prey as an audience because gamers are a passionate bunch; these megacorps exploit that.

This is one of the games I thought looked really awesome in the last showcase. Looks like it got a new trailer. This would be something nice to put on PS Plus but who knows if they’ll do it .

TGS is at the end of the month, may get a Rebirth date then.

PS Store preorders are now live for The Final Shape – Destiny 2 new campaign, raid, abilities, the whole nine. Launch isn’t until late winter though so plenty of time.

I’m reading speculation that Sony did things backwards and will be announcing some content updates for PS tiers – who knows though; maybe it’s all wrapped up in this showcase we’re hearing about.

Another thing I’m feeling that’s also conjecture is it feels like Sony is starting to lean higher-end gaming. They’re producing 200M+ USD games that a spartan few in the industry can compete with, then we have 30% sub svc price hike, very expensive peripherals rollout from Edge (controller) to Explorer (earbuds). Everything I’ve seen is of robust build quality with identifiable branding/design (hard to do in tech + Edge is the best controller I’ve ever played on), but a robust price tag to match. Maybe Sony in mission wants to be less everyman in audience and more the premier, Gucci option. Just some babble from me.

Theres supposedly a new PS2 Emulator in the works so i wouldn't be suprised if thats thrown in along with the PS5 Game streaming aswell

Oh yea for sure. I'm positive some people got some great value out of it. I personally didn't but I can see it. Although they did have the new Horizon and R&C game on there which I haven't played yet. At the end of the day, if you get 4-5 games out of it in the year that you spend hours playing, it should be worth it.
