I think this might of come from above Phil Spencer (Phil's also been very open that he does own a PS5 and plays on it from time to time)
The next decade will be very interesting then. I used to think PC gaming was the future but, given the exorbitant cost of GPUs now, consoles will only become more popular once they can consistently offer 60-120 fps and decent graphics. And without Xbox exclusivity, that could be good for consumers or maybe not.

They could also go the route of timed exclusivity, Xbox gets it first for say 6months - 1 year then onto other platforms kinda like PS is doing with PC

Yep more and more rumors about xbox going 3rd party. At this point everyone is just waiting for MS to make it official. All the top leakers have heard it is happening and have confirmed it.

It's not to surprising really. GP is not sustainable we were told this many times. You can sign up and cancel at will. How is that a sustainable model for a sub service while the cost to make games is sky rocketing? Microsoft's own projections showed they needed to be at like 50 millions subs by now. The last announced number was 25 million with Spencer saying during the trial they've had virtually no growth for most of 2022.

Phil Spencer has said in the past that he thinks it was a mistake to realease Ori on Nintendo Switch so I doubt he's making the decisions anymore. I think these moves are coming from above and he's being forced to go with it.

I feel bad for Sarah Bond. She gets promoted to head of Xbox and is basically being given a dead hardware brand at this point. While Phil gets promoted to head of gaming and doesn't have to deal with it anymore.

Not sure if this is the best place to discuss it, but did anyone catch the Silent Hill 2 remake “combat” trailer during the State of Play? Maybe it’s just me but I thought it was looking pretty rough. Gameplay doesn’t look good, and the graphics look like PS4/Xbone era. This is far from the quality of other remakes like RE4 or even Demon’s Souls from a few years back. Yikes.

Yea me and @Zazen mentioned it as well. Didn't look great. I just ignored it though because horror games are not for me.

What a weird world it'll be if Xbox stops making consoles and PS is the only thing you can get. How much innovation was driven based solely on Sony's competitive nature? Will that innovation continue without a rival? Will they become complacent knowing they've completely cornered the market?

And will they become worse than complacent?

Things like disabling the ability to save scum with USB on PS5. I personally find that decision very uncouth and petty since I like to do challenge runs that traditionally depend on using save files. Without serious competition, what other ridiculous practices might they adopt?

Just because they stop making consoles doesn’t mean they are no longer competition, Sony can’t just raise the prices of its hardware and software without consequence. People will move to GamePass, Nintendo, or PC. They have shareholders to please as well. And then there’s the creative side, creative people just want to make good games and they’re not as interested in the business side of things. Hell I can even see Sony not making consoles after PS6. They lose money on each one and hope that they’ll get a return with software sales. I know it’s easy to be skeptical but I do truly believe there is passion there besides just the desire to make money. We see that in the high quality games they continue to put out

Hey are there any decent side scrollers on ps4/5?

Already have strider and enjoyed that. Got Shadow of the Beast but didn't get far and it seems overly ccomplicated.

Suggestions welcome

I'm speaking strictly on the hardware side of the house. I know it's early to jump the gun, but if Xbox does drop out of the console wars I could absolutely see PS raising their prices. Competition is a key driver of innovation and affordability in any market. Shareholders will recognize PS has the market cornered and will ask Sony to take a second look at their console price now that there are fewer alternatives. I'm a big fan of competition and I don't see this as a good thing should it pan out.

You can disable and enable cloud saves at will, which works the same way – unless you're meaning multiple savepoints for one game that hasn't an intrinsic save slotting architecture itself to allow for as much. I've scummed a number of current- and old-gen titles this way, though. I was a USB guy too on my PS4 Pro so I do get the feeling of rug-being-pulled when you get comfortable doing something and then, can't.

Bud, so many. Off top of my head: Deadlight, Moonscars, Ender Lilies, Aeterna Noctis, Celeste, FIST, The Ascent (though camera is dynamic so isometric+; very fun Platinum), Blasphemous II... Take your pick.

Did that game Where Winds Meets ever release? You guys remember that one?

Sure but it's the principle of the matter. They're nickel and diming people because they know they can. It's just shitty monopolistic behaviour.

Dragons Crown was a blast. Also really enjoyed The Messenger. If you liked strider get Canon Dancer Osman, its only 30 minutes long though so get it on steep discount
